For Standart Issue 42 cover series, we approached the theme thinking about liminal spaces, and the quiet in-betweens—taking cues from Maya Deren, the symbol of Americal experimental film.
As photographer @basvanest put it: “Inspired by Maya Deren, we let reflections, windows, and shadows guide us; following the body’s movement intuitively, and allowing each image to unfold on its own.”
Discover our transition issue, and read it in print. Your copy will be accompanied by 50g of washed Ethiopia Elto coffee by @archers.ae , boasting flavours of jasmine, lemongrass, pear, and Earl Grey.

Boquinha; photographed in and around his home in the community of Vidigal, Rio De Janeiro.
Hearing his story first hand as we gazed out over the ocean from a place that was once one of the most dangerous favela’s in Rio was special.
Some crazy things aligned for this to come together for @standartmag Issue 39.
Also a big thanks to @alexandra_soderberg
I loved drifting around Noma on a crisp autumn morning, picking out odd corners to photograph @carolynelane , who heads the tea and coffee programme. At this three-star Michelin restaurant, she needed no encouragement to climb onto the roof. The calm of a no-service Monday opened up the full gamut of shoot angles….an experience I almost preferred to having dinner there…almost.
Now in Issue 41 - @standartmag … and thank you for a nice year of commissions
