As is now becoming an annual May Tradition, all the interesting stuff at Todmorden Folk Festival is being hosted by @nan_moors_bar_venue_todmorden at their fringe event. A great lineup, including a real fave of ours @emmanuelleparrenin playing today (now at Natural Endings). ‘Maison Rose’ is obviously a classic but all her output has been interesting over the years. Can’t wait. We’ll be playing records on Sunday night with pal @eddsanderss back in the bar, after the regulars session. Can’t speak for him but we’ll be leaving all our English folk vinyl at home. #folkedout

Times for tonight at The Golden Lion: 7PM ish - doors 8PM - Rich Ruth 9PM - Spencer Cullum’s Coin Collection Basin Rock DJs before, inbetween and afters. A handful of tickets on the door (£15). No one turned away for lack of funds (speak to Joe on the door). Apparently one local (I m guessing someone who has recently moved to the area) has an issue with events like this going on. I mean what could you possibly have against proggy-country-fried-folk? In all seriousness, the venue is under pressure from ongoing, and questionable noise complaints. Now is the moment to speak up. If The Golden Lion means something to you, take a couple of minutes to write a short email in your own words to: [email protected] [email protected] Even a few honest lines makes a difference.

Jim Ghedi ‘The Hungry Child’ is out now. The accompanying video was shot in the Peak District by close collaborator and director @jordancarroll_film : “Whilst we had a loose storyline to the film with regards to the folklore and history of coffin paths on the moors, specifically around Yorkshire, we really wanted to focus more on an aesthetic this time around. Playing with creative visuals to capture the energy of the track, and the texture of the landscape.” On the YouTube.

This morning @junihabel finally got her mitts on a vinyl copy of ‘Evergreen In Your Mind’. You can do the same as it’s now widely available in retailers (including @heightside.records on Tod market today) and direct from us. Or our pals @koke.plate if you are based in Scandinavia and @forcedexposure2 if you want to stock it in America. A stonewaller of an album.

BR026 Jim Ghedi ‘The Hungry Child’ How the hell do you follow Wasteland? @jimghedimusic went heavier, darker, more political. Lyrics taken from a German poem from 1806-1808 translated by Judith Piepe. Jim’s version is out now on all streaming platforms. Happy fucking St George’s Day. Refugees are welcome. Unity. Look after those less fortunate. Artwork @moonlighter_art Epic video @jordancarroll_film

We’ve really gone all out for #recordstoreday this year and put 2 copies of our new release @junihabel ‘Evergreen In Your Mind’ in @theexchangetodmorden a whole 6 days earlier than anywhere else. It’s also well stocked with the Basin Rock back catalogue. You’ll have to be quick mind as he closes in 20 minutes. Like most record shops though, it’s well worth bobbing in for a browse on any other day of the year. BR025 will be widely available in any emporium worth their salt next Friday 24th April. #shoplocal

Couldn’t resist this one @benmyers76 Spencer Cullum’s Coin Collection play The Golden Lion on 29th April. Doors 7pm. There are only about 20 tickets left and we’ve just put a limited number of low income ones on skiddle if the purse strings are tight at the moment but you really want to see Spencer and the crew. There will be some prints of this beaut available on the night only and we’ll give the money to Todmorden Food Bank. Excellent work @josef.pugh 🎶 ‘Cold Damp Valley’ (@fulltimehobbyrecords ) is the song @spencercullumjr and @seansweirdears wrote on their lost weekend in Tod a few years back and Calder Valley’s ‘Marrakesh Express’. And obviously every home should have a copy of ‘The Gallows Pole’.

At the turn of summer JUNI-E HABEL will be treading the well worn rock’n’roll Pennine circuit of Slaithwaite, Leeds, Tod and Marple (make a long weekend of it) before heading south (and then back up north - who booked this?) Few Basin Rock doubleheaders with @jimghedimusic in London & Sheffield and @duncanmarquss up in Glasgow. Couple of decent boozers in the run for good measure(s) and we’ll have few other surprises up our sleeve. Thanks to all the local promoters (use them or lose ‘em). If you can, please buy tickets early, it really is helpful all round. ‘Evergreen In Your Mind’ will be available to steam fully from tomorrow, slight delay to the vinyl. 18.06 - Slathwaite, Zapato @reddeer.club 19.06 - Leeds, The Cardigan Arms @fieldworkrecordings 20.06 - Todmorden, Natural Endings - 7PM stage time 21.06 - Marple, The Strines Nightingale @treemusic_nestival 24.06 - London, Horse Hospital (w/@jimghedimusic ) @broadsidehacks 25.06 - Brighton, Rose Hill Tavern @meltingvinylbrighton 26.06 - Sheffield, Sidney&Matilda (w/ @jimghedimusic ) @sidneyandmatilda 28.06 - Glasgow, The Glad Cafe (w/ @duncanmarquiss ) @thegladcafe

“11 quietly confident, understatedly alluring and life affirming songs that establish Habel as a distinctive, modern folk voice.” Full page review of ‘Evergreen In Your Mind’ in the new issue of Uncut magazine. Do support print (and indeed, digital) media. BR025 is streaming Friday, CD shipping direct from us now (bandcamp/basinrock.co.uk) and vinyl has been slightly delayed getting into shops, apologies but blame Record Store Day.

Various Mid Wales walking routes and views in and around Mynydd Llangorse, Rhiangoll Valley, Black Mountains, Epynt, Elan Valley, Aberedw, Wye Valley and lastly Llewelyn’s Cave. Circular walks lifted from ‘The Ordnance Survey Pathfinder to Mid Wales and Marches Walks’ (1995) and the ‘OS Leisure Guide Brecon Beacons and Mid Wales’ (1989). Also finally found ‘Folklore, Myths and Legends of Britain’ (1973) in the wild.
