LINER NOTES : We love what our audience shares @the_evening_ritual on their liner note cards! It’s amazing how much music reminds us of childhood , home, our parents…roller skating and Sunday chores 🔈. We are humbled by every reflection and memory that our sessions bring out. We have soooo many of these cards to get through , but whenever we need a boost, it’s great to just pick one up and read through them. Every attendee gets on of these to capture their thoughts and memories on. And we love doodles too! @ib_the_soulbrother @melleninwoods @thedoaksgirl

@the_evening_ritual presents : Session 031 : “MONEY JUNGLE” DUKE ELLINGTON | CHARLIE MINGUS | MAX ROACH 🎹🥁Be sure to grab your tickets 🎟️ Critically applauded, but not without controversy - hear the legendary Duke Ellington, already 62 yrs old at the time, break away from his big band sound in favor of a piano-trio record, together with the unlikely, yet powerhouse trio that would include Charlie Mingus and Max Roach. Heavy! Sunday, April 26 5pm - 8pm (Doors at 5, Album at 6) @wet_city Baltimore City Hosted by @basement_selector Tickets on Sale now Via Eventbrite - Link in Bio money_jungle_evening_ritual.eventbrite.com @backpayrecords on site with lots of jazz wax for sale! ~ ~ ~ On 17 September 1962, Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus and Max Roach gathered at New York’s Sound Makers Studio, where the Bill Evans Trio had just recorded, to make one of the greatest ever jazz trio albums. ~Andy Thomas 06 Feb 2025 Everythingjazz.com “Money Jungle: When Duke met Mingus and Max” DOWN BEAT ORIGINAL REVIEW: “Duke Ellington continues to be a most unpredictable and amazing musician. This album is astonishing –this is Ellington the soloist in some of the fastest company around. I’ve never heard Ellington play as he does on this album; Mingus and Roach, especially Mingus, push him so strongly that one can almost hear Ellington show them who’s the boss –and he dominates both of them, which is no mean accomplishment. Like I said, Duke Ellington is an amazing musician.” (Don DeMicheal) ALL MUSIC GUIDE ORIGINAL REVIEW: “Duke Ellington surprised the jazz world in 1962 with his historic trio session featuring Charles Mingus and Max Roach. Not in a mood to simply rework older compositions, the bulk of the LP focused on music he wrote specifically for the session. Every jazz fan should own a copy of this sensational recording session.” (Ken Dryden) The Ritual Continues.
