Play for Today “The Quiet Hour” - Delivered!
Last year, I directed my first episode of TV for the Play For Today series with Vertigo Films, C5 and Paramount. The Quiet Hour follows the night shift of an NHS nurse on an understaffed ward.
Here’s a sneak peek of a couple of behind-the-scenes stills with a few of our amazing crew. Keep your eyes peeled for more soon. Can’t wait for you all to see what our super-talented team have created when it airs later this year!

Channel 5/ Vertigo Films
Really fun to be back on a project with Director @margo.roe . Here’s a few bits from some testing we did at the end of last year, just before shooting our episode of Play for Today, “The Quiet Hour”, for Channel 5 with Vertigo Films airing later this year 👀
Special thanks to the one and only @_steadilee_ , and a massive thanks to @arri_rental for supporting us on the project. And for @robbiewmayo for spending the day and helping us out!

"My general approach to cinematography is to remain responsive, and this felt more relevant than ever, working to a micro-budget in such large shooting spaces. The Grand was a hotel that “once hosted royalty” (something the real-life manager of the building would remind us of on our multiple visits), and its architecture reflects that. It felt like it was built very sympathetically to natural light, transforming throughout the day. I was captivated by how beautiful some of the spaces looked on the recces, and I wanted to lean into that.
"This was the same for all the beautiful dressings in the hotel that our amazing production designer, Violette De Laet, and art director, Jessica Hurcombe, did an incredible job at refining and curating, resulting in a backdrop that felt trapped in time."
Screening in competition at this year’s Manchester Film Festival, Misper follows the employees of a dying seaside hotel as they have their lives upended when their colleague, Elle, vanishes. Instead of focusing on the police investigation or Elle’s close family, the story delves into the psychological impact on Leonard and his co-workers.
