Not only she’s a phenomenal photographer and storyteller, but she’s just opened her very own photo studio! @kotastudios.yvr “Kota” is one of those rare names that seems to carry meaning wherever it goes. Across different cultures and languages, it’s connected to light, strength, greatness, happiness, home, and gathering places. A fitting name for a studio built on strong foundations of love and friendship, to hold creativity, people, memories, and moments that matter. Kota is more than a studio, it’s a place for stories. ✨ I am lucky enough to say that’s she’s also one of the best friends I have, a sister by choice, a partner in life. I🖤U @laurahphoto and I’ll headbutt you until the end of time. 📸: @lion_eyes777

She captures moments, she focuses on what’s important, she tells stories through her pictures, she loves deeply, she brings joy and silliness, not only she listens but she hears and understands, she makes time, she shows up, she tells the truth even when uncomfortable, she brings out the best in the people around her, she holds herself to the highest standards, she plays every instrument you can think of, her musical taste is as interesting as she is, she makes playlists for the people she loves. 📸: @lion_eyes777

Happy Family Day! …and happy rare husband sighting day. He prefers real life over social media, and I try to respect that, but these were too good not to share. Swipe to the end to quickly time travel to 6 years ago. 📸: @leocoxphotography @laurahphoto (2019)

Just me and my cubs. They’ve made me braver, stronger and more resilient than I ever planned to be. They test my patience in every way imaginable, but their clever minds and infinite kindness make up for it. I look at this and I’m reminded of every version of myself I had to grow into. And the evolution never ends, time flies, it’s inevitable, whether we document it or not. They’re growing. But so am I. 🤍

Six years. That’s how long it had been since we took proper family photos. Family Day feels like the right moment to share this little update. Grateful @leocoxphotography asked us to step in front of his lens in support of a good cause. 🤍

“This is why I fight” After my final martial arts class of 2025, a year of profound transformation and achievements, I’m choosing to share something deeply personal. Not for attention, but because staying silent no longer serves me. If facing my own past and the remnants of shame helps even one person feel seen, hopeful, or less alone, then it matters. This story isn’t about me, it’s about what’s possible. #keepdoingwhatyouredoing #womenwhoroll #martialartsjourney #mixedmartialartist #whyifight @lion_eyes777 @mastergees @gb_northburnaby @fightstoryofficial @bfphoto.ca

Yesterday I earned my blue belt in Brazilian jiujitsu and it feels, for lack of better words, unbelievable. When I first started, I had no idea where this journey would take me. I just knew it would be challenging, humbling, and completely outside my comfort zone. And I was so right, but I also discovered something I didn’t expect: how much I would love this art. From the awkward first rolls to the “What do I do now?” moments, to finally seeing a few things click… sometimes. Every step has taught me patience, discipline, perseverance, and trust in myself. Training at GBNB has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. The community, the guidance, the amazing training partners… it all made this journey not just possible, but meaningful. I’ve grown as an athlete, a student, and a person. Deeply grateful for the professors and coaches that supported me in my learning journey, the training partners that made all the learning more fun and effective and the friends I made along the way. This blue belt isn’t just a rank or a milestone, it’s a reminder of how far I’ve come, how hard I’ve worked, and how much potential and learning there still is ahead. Blue belt secured, now I have to really grow into it and start worrying about my wrists. This journey is only getting started. Bring it on!! 📸: @k_.ewers

Yesterday I stepped out of my comfort zone and went to DCS for a trial class, the place where Chris regularly trains in Jiujitsu. I joined the fundamentals class and then somehow also survived the advanced class right after. New gym, new faces (with a few exceptions), and no idea what I was walking into… A year ago this would’ve been a hard no from me. Having Chris @lion_eyes777 there as my emotional support human helped tremendously, but the positive energy in the room made it surprisingly easy to settle in. Everyone at DCS @diazcombatsports was incredible. Friendly, welcoming, and clearly committed to the “challenge you without murdering you” philosophy of training. Every partner I drilled or rolled with had that magical jiujitsu intuition: Start light → see if she dies → if not, slowly increase intensity. 10/10. Perfect difficulty settings: enough to challenge me, help me learn and grow, while still feeling completely safe. I left feeling grateful, accomplished, and proud of how far this journey has taken me. Thank you DCS, and especially Doug @optimusroll , for such a memorable training experience. I learned a ton, sweated buckets, had so much fun, and walked away with deep respect for your community. One step, one roll, one “wait, how am I upside down?” moment at a time… I’m becoming a stronger version of myself every day. Swipe until the end for an interesting side-by-side before/after picture taken roughly 2.5hr apart. You may not notice (hint: it’s all in the eyes), but I go from a tense “what am I even doing here?” to a confident “I (mostly) got this”! I also want to give a shout-out to @wickedrose.ca for being at the same time my go-to “Stretchy Armour & Linus Blanket”, making me feel confident & safe in all my martial arts adventures.

I did a thing… and I’m so glad I said yes. 🌹 @wickedrose.ca invited me to simply show up as myself: to move, to sweat, to do what I love. And it reminded me just how powerful it feels to be seen for who I am, fully in my element, while also representing a brand made by women for women who train… that’s something special. Pure badass! 👊🏼🔥 Thank you for this incredible honour and for making women’s training gear that celebrates strength and power, not just style. ❤️ 🌹: @wickedrose.ca 🎥: @tychecreative 📍: @heroacademy_mma
