Yesterday I stepped out of my comfort zone and went to DCS for a trial class, the place where Chris regularly trains in Jiujitsu. I joined the fundamentals class and then somehow also survived the advanced class right after.
New gym, new faces (with a few exceptions), and no idea what I was walking into… A year ago this would’ve been a hard no from me. Having Chris
@lion_eyes777 there as my emotional support human helped tremendously, but the positive energy in the room made it surprisingly easy to settle in.
Everyone at DCS
@diazcombatsports was incredible. Friendly, welcoming, and clearly committed to the “challenge you without murdering you” philosophy of training.
Every partner I drilled or rolled with had that magical jiujitsu intuition: Start light → see if she dies → if not, slowly increase intensity. 10/10. Perfect difficulty settings: enough to challenge me, help me learn and grow, while still feeling completely safe.
I left feeling grateful, accomplished, and proud of how far this journey has taken me.
Thank you DCS, and especially Doug
@optimusroll , for such a memorable training experience.
I learned a ton, sweated buckets, had so much fun, and walked away with deep respect for your community.
One step, one roll, one “wait, how am I upside down?” moment at a time… I’m becoming a stronger version of myself every day.
Swipe until the end for an interesting side-by-side before/after picture taken roughly 2.5hr apart. You may not notice (hint: it’s all in the eyes), but I go from a tense “what am I even doing here?” to a confident “I (mostly) got this”!
I also want to give a shout-out to
@wickedrose.ca for being at the same time my go-to “Stretchy Armour & Linus Blanket”, making me feel confident & safe in all my martial arts adventures.
