Vanishing twin, when in utero a twin absorbs into the other. This was a custom prop I had the pleasure of making for a film.
I spent a lot of time redesigning him and changing the materials I was using. It’s not talked about on social media but I went to school for makeup. I spent a total of 4 weeks in the classroom for Fx. I never learned props or how to make eyes, teeth, hair punch, etc. I thank other Fx artists for showing me their ways and being able to figure things out for myself
So let’s talk about failure.
- I originally tried to make the head out of sculpty clay on the baby head. Problems were I can’t bake a plastic baby head in the oven to cure the clay, so I changed it to tinfoil inside. First time using sculpty clay and the lovely
@pixie_bl00d makes it look so easy haha. I took inspiration from her creeps as I’ve always loved them.
- I went back to my roots and used monster clay, but that does not have a way to harden but it is a very hard clay
- I decided I would cast it in silicone and pour it up so I could have a silicone head with punched hair
- my first mold needed more release or possibly a layer of vinyl to separate the two silicones.
I wanted to mold in resin and fiber glass but the fear of failing has scared me away for years.
- I stuck with the monster clay and sealed it with crystal clear instead and veto the idea of hair punching.
- I did buy these eyes from
@compleatsculptor and repainted a few of them.
- teeth were first made by pulling poly plastic but it wasn’t uniform enough, I wanted the teeth to be slightly different but same font. I ended up using the end of these tooth pics that I used at my first ever makeup competition back in 2015! So those teeth are almost 11 years old
Overall : I am happy with my work and the final project for the client but I wish I had access to learning without having to dedicate 2 years to tom savini, thankful for my
@stanwinstonschool online school BUT having to buy all the materials to even practice isn’t always something I can swim.
@nadjanikko has made getting into prop work less scary and I’m greatful for her discord channel for shop workers and her daily reminders and relatable content
