Over the last few months I've been working on a series of short documentaries, telling local stories pertaining to the floods that hit Maribyrnong three years ago. I've been working with @flickcine as DOP, @justin.macawili on sound, and the absolute powerhouse @nick.rae as editor (whose had to do so much heavy lifting these last few weeks). Y'all are legends for making an idea, a reality. I'm premiering the short series THIS SATURDAY 11TH at Couldon Gardens in Maribyrnong at 7pm if you'd like to come and see some important local stories.

The crisis in #Sudan has been going on since April 2023 and the world powers have largely ignored it. For months, we've been wondering how we can support the Sudanese people. Fortunately, the inimitable @sebpas , chef & co-founder of @okorooftopandcafe in Fitzroy & the incredible Sudanese artist @bakri2 has agreed to collaborate with us. Sebastian Pasinetti is no stranger to hospitality, being born into a hospo family and taking the plunge himself at 15. He is the co-founder of OKO Restaurant, OKO Rooftop & Cafe and OKO Catering and a proud queer Person of Colour. Seb is also the Co-Founder of @mindsenplace , a hospitality hub for diversity, wellbeing and hospitality and the Head of Partnerships at Kelly's Cause Foundation, a charity that trains Mental Health First Aiders specifically in the hospitality industry across the UK and Australia. Bakri is a journalist, photographer, videographer, DJ and lover of all things food, culture and movement.Like so many people, he's inspired by the ways in which food preserves, advances, and bridges culture. In 2018 he produced a short documentary about how this looks, feels and tastes in the suburb of Auburn in Western Sydney. He has always had an affinity with food, particularly Sudanese cuisine. He credits his Mother, who was known in the community for her cooking, for passing on a rich flavour palette. Over the last five years he's focused on maintaining that taste and sharing the culture. As someone who loves to cook for people, he developed a comfortable repertoire of Sudanese dishes that seem to be a hit with larger groups. If you're in #Melbourne & free on the evening of Sunday 29th September, please join us for a special fundraiser dinner for @khartoum_aid_kitchen & Sudanese American Physician Association, two charities that are supporting the 19 million Sudanese who have been displaced. You'll get a Sudanese 3-course dinner, with ticket profits going to the two charities. You can choose from 2 sittings, 5pm and 7pm. Only 8 spots left in the 7pm session! #welcomemerchant #sudancrisis #alleyesonsudan #dontforgetsudan #fundraiser #communitysupport #melbournesupport #feastforgood #dogood IDs in alt text
