Her collaboration with Aunty Dr Lou Bennett AM in Yorta Yorta language rematriation through song, is an expression of this, music as vessel for what colonisation tried to silence.⁠ ⁠ Her work speaks to land, to kinship, to sovereignty. To the understanding that caring for Country and fighting for its return are not separate from art. They are the same act. ⁠ ⁠ Allara is a fierce advocate for Land Back, for climate justice, and for the self-determination of First Nations communities. She sings of murnong farms in Preston (Naarm) rentals. About displacement, food sovereignty, what it means to practice culture on stolen, unceded land and the more than 200 years of colonial structures that her work, in every field, is committed to collapsing.⁠ ⁠ This is music rooted in the knowledge that culture was never lost. 'compost : compose' is an arts project by Rasha Tayeh, a transdisciplinary artist, writer, curator, researcher, herbalist and founding director of @beiteshai Teahouse. Her practice is land-based, focusing on telling stories about people’s relationships in community & ecology. With over 20 years’ experience as an exhibiting artist in Australia and abroad, and through her pop-up teahouse since 2017, Rasha has curated and hosted a range of art exhibitions, workshops, community events, live gigs and listening sessions, tea ceremonies and poetry nights. How we might compost old structures, tend to grief, and decompose inherited ways of thinking, doing, and being, to make space for composing new imaginaries — rooted in care, repair, and collective liberation? FEATURING: Mohamed Chamas @mohamedchamas_ is a poet and new media artist who re-enchants worlds between heresy and miracle, exploring language, cyberspace, gamification, the military-entertainment complex, occult studies and spirituality. Allara @allara___ is a staunch Yorta Yorta artist, songwoman, bassist, producer and sound-designer. Living on Wurundjeri, Woi-Wurrung Country, her work is driven by healing, self-determination and the resilience of yenbana-l and woka-n mulana.
