With humility and gratitude, I’m proud to be one of @grist 50 Fixers building a more just and equitable future. #Grist50 /fix/grist-50/2023
Given all that’s happening in the world (especially back home), it’s hard to make space for this, but I am challenging myself to honor this moment for celebration. This is gratitude to my lineage. This is my plea for folks to live a life rich in alignment. This is for all the Indigenous mothers, planters, invisible laborers — those who are working their humble and powerful magic behind the scenes.
Aloha ʻāina is the way.
Big mahalo to those who have held space for me on this journey @sunofodd@mediasanctuary@soulfirefarm@leahpenniman@capital_bookkeeping (to name just a few) & even more mahaloz to those of you who continued to root for me at my lowest points. I am honored to still be here with my spirit in tact.

On March 15, 2025, Karthik Pandian’s solo exhibition SURRENDUR opened @midwayart with a ritual featuring @thomasdraskovic (Standing Rock Lakota) singing a Lakota encouragement song, Douglas R. Ewart playing bells, flutes, and a didgeridoo submerged into the pool of water at the center of one of the platforms, and the artist’s mother Lalitha Pandian, performing drishti to remove negative energy from the space and bless its participants.
Pandian drew water from the pool with a clay vessel made by @azukea inspired by the gourd containers of her Kanaka ‘Ōiwi ancestors. The water was carried by @mikeforcia to @pejuta4you who watered the soil of her Dakota homelands transplanted from @wakantipi for the duration of the three-month exhibition. Time-lapse video captures the growth of the plants that emerged from the soil in that time.
Thanks to @akicita_sunka_wakan_ska for shooting this video and to @juliahelenrice@kelsey.o for collaborating on the concept and care of the “undergarden”
It's Our Fearless Flour Queen's birthday! To the woman who's baked a nourishing cake for every occasion / who has fed so many of us at her kitchen table / curses like nobody's watching when we're all around / bakes cookies with all our feral kids without irritation / keeps a microwave so we can enjoy hot food a little quicker / harnesses all the scraps and shreds of our experience to dream up new patterns together. I love you, Amy. I don't know what we'd do without you. I want to be you when I grow up.
From today to a year ago... During a time of so much death & destruction, I am so grateful to be alive, safe, creating. Baking cookies. Marching in parades. Weaving many, many baskets and even a hat! Lights! Making leis and laulaus with family. Paddling on calm Upstate NY waters. Swimming in the heavenly clarity of Mt. Olympus. Singing in the Music Hall. Roller skating with my kids. Shedding long braids. Uhi. Sunrises. Planting seeds for Palestine. It's all a blur and I'm in awe of everything we've moved through this past year. I could write a book about it. Maybe one day I will. So many people to thank. Thank you.
A day late because we've been busy celebrating @sunofodd ... Here's to another year of finding water, scorpions and special sticks, climbing on and in trees, getting dizzy, screaming, laughing, dancing, imagining, problem solving, letting go, moving through and all the rest with you, my love. 🦂
THIS Friday 10/10, 4-7pm @mediasanctuary
Come weave bookmarks with @rain.over.earth and me during OPEN HOURS @collardcitygrowers ...
Together, we will weave plant fibers and other selected strands into bookmarks.
🌿 Meet @collardcitygrowers - we'll be cleaning up by sunset.
🌿 Kids welcome with an accompanying adult. They will need your help!
🌿 Drop-ins welcome, but please register so we can be adequately prepared with materials. We have a limited number of looms. (link in bio!)
🌿 You're welcome to bring your own strands to weave in (yarn, scraps, hair, etc.) if you'd like.
🌿 The project may not take the full 3 hours, so it's okay if you can't stay for the entire duration.
This workshop is one part of a series called Strands of Regeneration, a collaborative project started with my pal @elslaurel ... It is supported by @capregionartscenter Arts Thrive Grow grant program. Arts Thrive and Grow has been funded by New York State, Kathy Hochul, Governor. We thank Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins for her extraordinary commitment and leadership, and our elected officials who represent our grantmaking region: Senators Jake Ashby and Neil D. Breslin; Assemblymembers Scott H. Bendett, Patricia Fahy, John T. McDonald III, Angelo Santabarbara, Phil Steck, and Mary Beth Walsh.
My brother and first friend, Daryn Kamakaʻala Keahi, is an ancestor now. The realest artist I ever knew, endlessly talented and loved by so many. 2023 was our last hurrah, when he came to stay with us in New York. It was an intense couple months 🎢 but I'll never forget our dancing, drumming, drawing and creating together. It was like we were kids again. I'm heartbroken, but I trust he's found peace now. A hui hou, bruddah. You are deeply missed.
Big thanks to my mom @jaymahea who never stopped looking, my brother's kids (Pualena, Puloku, Paulele) for being strong and steady, all the peeps in PNW who kept an eye out & everyone who has shared their aloha with our family through all of this.

Abundant Aquarius szn... I am still shook from this deluxe surprise orchestrated by @sunofodd in my peak hermit era @yesfolk generously offering their sacred celebratory space and all the amazing beings who love me. I'm so grateful to be in this life with all of you.
There's too much to say about this child born on a hot winter morning in February. He lives up to his name, bearing witness to many versions of fire & flame as we reweave our reality.
