Heavenly presents for mama…
wasn’t sure whether I was going to share this in any capacity but grief is mad non linear and it’s been really special to convert grief into art for the first time properly
This last month having Eid and mother’s day so close together accidentally inspired me to paint for the first time in absolutely years.
Jimmy and mum’s connection was so strong he’s ended up being emblematic of her joy for my entire family. Mum loved horses for as long as I could remember-our house was peppered with ornaments and little trinkets of them but we never had the money to ride/be around them.
I was able to make the last two years of her life finally filled with the little fantasy pony she’d longed for her entire life, and thus jimmy became an endless source of joy for her (and obviously me)
For anyone that knows him-him bowing his head like that for her is UNHEARD of and it’s almost like he knew how important those photos and last months with her were…
I wanted to convert a lot of heavy feelings around missing her into something and through a beautiful little series of inspirations it led me back to this photo….I really wanted to represent her and him in the most heavenly fantasy element I could and didn’t quite imagine it would turn into me trying to paint a horse and learning colour theory for the first time through trial and error to paint this but here we are…a belated heavenly eid and mother’s day present i finished on the pink full moon this week.
