New comics illustrated! For local nonprofit @oregonconsumerjustice , two new additions to the Consumer Confidence Comics series: Building Digital Safety Skills (in collaboration with nonprofit @ageplusoregon ) and Dealing with Debt Collection. Both these comics are available in full on OCJ's website in English and Spanish, and you can order free copies to distribute in your community. Digital safety is awesome and achievable!!!

Paul Williams (nz comedian on taskmaster not rainbow connection man) _allegedly_ held the release party for his second album a year and a half ago. The album hasn't appeared. It’s almost the beginning of a new year. You know what that means: it’s time to get organized! Amateur book-binder and professional list-maker Audra McNamee will walk you through designing and binding a custom planner. You’ll leave with the tools and know-how to bind your own books in the future. This could be the year that you get on top of everything. Or this could be the year you give a thoughtful gift to a disorganized loved one. Or you could take this workshop with a loved one, both learn how to bind books, and each leave with a planner, a win-win-win-win scenario. Cost of admission includes: all necessary book-binding supplies, a simple book press to take home, and free admission to the Northwest Museum of Cartoon Arts! This workshop has 3 meetings: A VIRTUAL meeting on Saturday, December 6th at 8:30-10am PT, where you’ll prepare the files for your custom planner. Two IN-PERSON meetings on Saturday, December 13th and Sunday, December 14th, 8:30-10:30am at the Northwest Museum of Comic Art in Portland, Oregon (322 NW 8th Ave, Portland, OR 97209). With coffee and snacks, you’ll sew, trim, and glue your planner. What you need: The ability to draw digitally, or scan artwork into a pdf (to prepare your custom planner design for print). In the virtual meeting, Audra will discuss supplies you can optionally bring in to customize your planner further, like ribbon, paper, and cloth. About the teacher: Crucial Comix editor Audra is a nonfiction cartoonist who started making custom planners in high school. Audra is currently working on comics about the neuroscience of psychedelics with neuroscientist Luca Mazzucato at the University of Oregon, and is in charge of operations for the University of Oregon Science and Comics Initiative. Audra has taught comics classes at Portland Community College. @audmcname and I had so much fun @shortrunseattle this weekend and we got to debut this sign that I quilted. This is my first quilt and I learned a ton, the back of the quilt is a little nod to @crucialcomix and the very cute drawing is, as always, by Audra. Short run featured so many amazing artists and also the very liminal hallway on slide 4. (if you want to see this quilt in person, come to @pdx_zines on Sunday in the psu ballroom)

Tomorrow evening (Wednesday 10/2)!! I’m running the workshop “Intro to digital drawing with Procreate” through Crucial Comix! 5pm-7pm PT/8pm-10pm ET. Sliding scale prices. We’ll talk about some general digital art best practices, several of Procreate’s standard functions, and a few of the shortcuts I use to make my workflow efficient.
