Some lore behind how Atutu got into electrifying last-mile healthcare facilities with our program, Amplify Healthcare 🏥 Amplify Healthcare started the way all our programs do: local communities identifying a need. 🔍 As we worked with Myanmar locals to provide solar in displacement camps or remote residences, they kept pointing us to prioritize the local off-grid healthcare facilities. It was for good reason. These facilities didn’t have grid electricity and couldn’t rely on other energy sources like diesel, which was too expensive and difficult to get for regular use. It meant energy scarcity and unreliability heavily blocked healthcare access—especially for women. Following the locals’ lead, we started Amplify Healthcare in 2024 to electrify more accessible and safe healthcare for last-mile communities ⚡️ This also marked our pivot from individual solar systems to community-focused solar microgrids. Thanks to local wisdom and partnership, we’ve now transformed x lives with Amplify Healthcare ⚡️🩺🩻 And we’re ready to show up and keep transforming more.

At Skoll World Forum 2026, we asked fellows like Lin Thu Hein, Co-Founder of @atutu.design , what they wish funders understood about social innovators. Their answer? This work is risky. The people closest to the world’s toughest challenges are building bold solutions in real time, often before the rest of the world can see what’s possible 🌍 Real change doesn’t happen by playing it safe. It happens when funders are willing to step into uncertainty alongside visionary leaders shaping a better future.

This Earth Day we’re calling attention to how fuel disruptions from the American war on Iran are disproportionately impacting last-mile communities in Myanmar. The energy crisis has hindered essential services like healthcare and forced extreme rationing of fuel. Without thoughtful action, last-mile communities will continue to be left behind in energy access. That’s why we’re ramping up solar installs. We know that energy is not a luxury for last-mile communities—it’s a necessity.

It’s been 2 years since we brought energy to a rural community hospital through crowdfunding support from Giving Tuesday. Our focus was to help the hospital meet their energy needs at that time. With evolving conditions, there are also evolving needs. We continue to maintain our partnership with this community by upgrading the technology to meet their new needs, with the help of a local donors. By installing a bigger battery, it runs 3xs as long making the hospital less dependent on charging. With this upgrade, the hospital is able to scale their support and operate with resilience. #DisasterRelief #CommunityFirst #ClimateAction #HumanitarianWork #EmergencyResponse #solarenergy #myanmar #community

When we ran our annual Giving Tuesday crowd fundraiser last year, we didn’t initially meet our goal. This meant postponing our plans to bring a solar microgrid to community hospital until we had enough funds. Thanks to the follow-on funding from Echoing Green, we were able to close the gap needed to complete the project. As of last month, we delivered energy to over 6,000 people and counting through powering hospital services. #DisasterRelief #CommunityFirst #ClimateAction #HumanitarianWork #EmergencyResponse #solarenergy #myanmar #community

Good news, y’all! Last month, Atutu won the Energy Resilience Track Prize in the Empower a Billion Lives (EBL) competition 💡 Fun fact: this is our second time winning at EBL! In 2023, we won Best Impact Solution. Huge thanks to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for recognizing our work a second time! @ieeeorg ’s EBL is a global competition aiming to develop sustainable solutions for addressing global energy poverty. We’re so proud to have showcased how community is a practical and essential part of creating an energy independent future. It’s really because of our partner communities that Atutu can do what we do. #DisasterRelief #CommunityFirst #ClimateAction #HumanitarianWork #EmergencyResponse #solarenergy #myanmar #community

🎉 It was Atutu’s 8th birthday on Dec 21st! Meaning, Atutu has been in operation for the last 8 years, providing energy to last-mile communities. ⚡ In 2019, we implemented our first installation in Kachin State; we were still a small student organization. Now, we’ve grown to a network of over 40 students, professionals, faculty, and community members across the globe 🌏. As of 2025, we’ve completed over 385 solar installations, transforming over 24,500 lives with reliable energy. 🌱 We could not get here without so many people and organizations providing us with crucial support. Thank you for being part of this collective effort and for giving us the encouragement to do the work. Cheers to more years with Atutu! #DisasterRelief #CommunityFirst #ClimateAction #HumanitarianWork #EmergencyResponse #solarenergy #myanmar #community

Having accessible and reliable energy is a crucial first step in facilitating emergency response. It powers medical appliances, water filtrations systems, technology for timely communication, and much more. In the past 7 months, Atutu brought energy to critical infrastructure after the destructive earthquake struck Myanmar in March. This energy was used to power 8 emergency shelters, 2 student learning centers, and 3 healthcare clinics. Atutu’s plan to transition from emergency response to relief. This means ensuring that the communities impacted by the earthquake can rebuild with more resilience for the future. #Myanmar #earthquake #DisasterResponse #HumanitarianAid #SolarEnergy #MyanmarQuake #earthquake #disasterresponse #disaster #technology #CleanEnergy #CleanWater #healthcare

This summer, we connected 270 people (225 students and 45 teachers) in Sagaing to our solar microgrids. Our two installations in June and July brought much-needed energy to an orphanage and boarding school, completely transforming the way they live, learn, and teach. Teachers deserve to teach and care for their students without worrying about electricity shut offs. We keep the lights on, the fans running, and the water flowing. So that teachers can focus on teaching, and students can focus on learning. Two more installs completed toward our Illuminate Learning Program goals! We’re making learning safer, more comfortable, and more dignified for all, starting with the hardest-to-reach places in Myanmar. #Myanmar #earthquake #DisasterResponse #HumanitarianAid #SolarEnergy #MyanmarQuake #earthquake #disasterresponse #disaster #technology #CleanEnergy #CleanWater #Healthcare
