RATSRATRATS~ a peice from my solo show ~rot and rebirth 🍑🐀🍑 I’ve have a complicated relationship with rats. As a child I had a beloved pet rat named Twinkie who ate treats from my hand and cuddled. She passed naturally of cancer in my arms. Later at a formative job at a wildlife rescue center one of my main tasks was to gut frozen rats to hand feed to the blind and injured owls and raptors. Life begins with death. In my 20’s I lived in a house in Oakland with pink lighting, five pets snakes and a stripper pole in the living room~ myself and my housemates would feed the snake live rats. Now my cat regularly brings me unwanted rat gifts and rats regularly make their way into my dreams. Rats are crafty, rat evolved with us, rats can’t escape us and we can’t escape rats. #gouche #goucheonblackpaper
I had a whole solo show this year and didn’t post most of the work to the grid. Shout out to the nocturnal , the scavengers , and the underworld creatures who inspired this body of work (and Claude the alligator who inspired this now SOLD painting). I’ll be releasing the work over the next few days. Thank you to all the homies who came out , played music and folded zines with me- it was months ago but I’ll always cherish the memories.
