In March I was granted the opportunity to take a week long intensive book binding course at @sanfranciscocenterforthebook , fully funded thanks to the Forlin Scholarship.
My interest in bookbinding was resparked after spending an entire day on the 6th floor at the SFPL main library looking at materials/artist books in their special collections. I was researching arsons in the Mission and wanted to see a book someone had shared with me, “Mission Inferno,” a book that was binded to resemble an investigative case file on fires in the Mission from 1970-2016. Since this day I started seeing books a little differently and my love of the library continues to grow🫶🏽✨
I have a lot to learn from this medium and even more practicing to do, but I’m super excited to be able to make my own sketchbooks from now on and work towards creating my own artist books 🙆🏽♀️✨

Send your boo a Valentines Love Letter ❤️
Or make your own custom cards at our upcoming workshop! Now being offered at a sliding scale 💘

I started doing love letters during the beginning of the pandemic as way to sustain my printmaking practice with limited space. I didn’t want to keep stacks of prints and decided to transform them into love letters as a way to become a bridge between folks who may not have been able to be physically close to their loved one’s during birthdays, holidays, and Valentines Day.
This year one of my goals is to come back to the parts of my art practice that felt fun!! And this project brings me immense joy!
I’ve loved being able to bare witness to the love that people share with each other. I have had the honor and the privilege to play cupid at the beginning stages of people’s romantic relationships, between friends, and family. This project fills me with hope amidst what feels like the never ending violence of the world.
And to put it simply, we all deserve more fun mail, especially during this time!
Link in my bio to order or DM me!!!
Update: If you would like to make your own valentines day cards @sophiamitty and I are hosting a Lino-cut workshop on 2/1 from 12pm - 5pm!!
