Spent this morning in Parliament at the launch of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Africa’s report on the portrayal of Africa in the school curriculum. For the last year I’ve worked as an advisor to the group, pushing for a representation of Africa in the curriculum that is centered around Africa’s immense contribution to human knowledge throughout history - looking to the continent as a place of not only aid, but of economic exchange, innovation, and opportunity. I was also privileged to work with the Labour Lord Boateng, who in 1987 was elected alongside Bernie Grant and Dianne Abbot, and has worked to open the doors for Black people in UK politics - a real legend. Been quiet for a minute, but will be back soon.

Some thoughts on why we should interrogate notions of Black excellence and recognise that all young Black people are inherently worthy of safety and respect, regardless of what we achieve. Part of @penguinukbooks talk on Black Joy.

Was privileged to be a part of Jordan’s Real Talk Episode 1 on “Celebrating Heritage” This clip is about why Black British history is erased and why we need to learn about the full story of Black people in this country from the history of Black Romans and Tudors to uprising and resistance to injustice. Link in bio for full clip. Alongside @ifedior @richiebrave @harrypinero @jahnavinniss @jumpman23

Glow in the Dark out now. The world is so hopeless and dark and bleak right now but this project has given me a lot of hope in the process. It’s a project about young people who have experienced homelessness and the potential that they have and what it would mean if these young people were supported. What was even more striking than their ambitions was the relentless determination that these young people show every day.

Often growing up I felt like the stories of me and my friends were erased from the collective consciousness. I’ve written an essay that I hope can live beyond this moment in time and that young Black men can pick up in 10 years and get something from. MANDEM an essay collection edited by Iggy London is out March 2023. Privileged to have contributed to this. Thank you @iggyldn for the opportunity and for the time you put into helping me execute the idea. There’s a beauty in completion and faith in the unknown.

Across August I dropped the “Beyond Black History Month” series, in partnership with i-D magazine. Over four videos and five articles the series covered some stories and concepts that I feel are important for the moment we are living in. From highlighting the forgotten legacy of Black Victorian trade unionists to exploring the connection between Black history and the climate crisis to looking at how Black art can be a tool for archiving our lives for future generations. Thanks to everyone @i_d who helped bring this to life.
