Earlier today at the University of Cambridge I spoke with students and lecturers about my cases on the criminalisation of Black language practices through hate speech laws and what it reveals about power, race, and linguistic discrimination. 🖤 It was so lovely hearing from the next generation of future lawyers about how my work on movement lawyering has changed their view on the type of lawyer they want to be - sounds like a win to meee 🤌🏾 🫶🏾🥳 . For more information about movement lawyering check out this book “Dignifying People in Legal Systems” . Thankful to God always for the grace and favour to walk in my purpose always! Recording coming next week and will share once it’s available 👀 . #barrister #movementlawyer #blackhistory #lawyer #community

The Caribbean Dictionary has existed for over 25 years! Here’s your sign to order a copy online via @uwipress 📚❤️. . It contains more than 20,000 words from across Caribbean English Creoles, with deep research into the history and origins of each word across different islands with some words traced all the way back to the African continent 🫶🏾 . #caribbean #africa #linguistics #dictionary #creole

Some of the most important legal lessons I’ve learned did not come from courtrooms or legal textbooks. They came from community work. Teaching Black children in South London changed the way I understand language, power, and justice. It also shaped the lawyer I would become. Too often, Black language is treated as something improper, disruptive, or suspicious, whether in schools or in courtrooms. What I came to realise is that linguistic discrimination is never just about words. It is about whose humanity is recognised and whose is denied. This carousel reflects on how community organising through BLAM UK became one of the foundations of my practice as a criminal defence barrister and movement lawyer. For any lawyers or law students reading this: build relationships with community. Some of the most transformative legal understanding begins there. . #lawyer #community #legalaid #linguistics #blacklawyers

I will be speaking at the University of Cambridge next week friday on the failings of UK hate crime law, and how I see this in my criminal defence practice where many Black language speakers are being wrongly criminalised for their language practices. Scroll to read some of these cases. 📅 15 May 2026 🕑 14:00–16:00 BST 📍 Institute of Criminology, University of Cambridge Register: Online link in my bio As a barrister and a movement lawyer, I’m committed to advancing linguistic justice and challenging language discrimination that continue to be rampant in the UK Criminal Justice System. #LinguisticJustice #RaceAndJustice #HateCrimeLaw #MovementLawyering #BlackLanguage #HumanRights #blackbritish #linguistics

Wow! I won Rising Star Barrister 2026 at the Women and Diversity in Law Awards 🏆 My first ever legal award, and it still feels surreal hearing my name called. The judges commended my work on racial and linguistic justice in UK courtrooms and through my non profit, BLAM. Every time I enter a courtroom, I fight to create a space that sees me and the communities I serve. Firstly, I thank God because without the prayers, grace, and covering, I would not be here. I applied to become a barrister for four years before receiving my first offer. On every application I used this quote by Muhammad Ali: “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.” I was just a girl from Brixton who learned about Brown v. Board of Education in history class and understood the power of law to help communities achieve justice. Now I am here, serving my community and pushing conversations on racial and linguistic justice forward. Proof that dreams are powerful when opportunity meets preparation. As bell hooks said: “What we do is more important than what we say or what we say we believe.” This award is for Brixton girls with big dreams, for everyone told to wait their turn, and for every community still fighting to be fully seen. We rise together ✊🏾 Thank you to everyone who believed in me, my parents, church family, mentors, supervisors, community, and all of my people dem. Special thank you to Ruth Reid for nominating me and always supporting my journey. A true blessing 🫶🏾 #law #movementlawyer #womeninlaw #blackwomen #barrister

BLAM UK turned 9 this week. I founded it at 22. Built in resistance. Built because we had to. My love in action for the ongoing struggle for the liberation of Black people. 9 years of fighting anti-Black school exclusions, defending Black British English, teaching Black history, challenging linguistic racism, and building tools for our communities. We’ve published Black history workbooks, produced research on the national curriculum, delivered racial wellness spaces, trained schools and organisations, and built the UK’s first Black history AR app. Now that same fight extends into AI and digital systems shaping Black life. Big up every volunteer, worker, and supporter over the years ,BLAM exists because of you. Thank you to God for the favour and grace to walk in my purpose. As we continue building, I’m reminded: we are not just resisting the present, we are radically imagining the future our people deserve and making it real together. If you can, support our work by donating via @blamcharity website or buying our book via the link in my bio to give to your local community. . . #blackhistory #blackbritian #blackbritish #uk #brixton
