Voor het tweede jaar op rij presenteert De Cinema een selectie VR-films tijdens de krokusvakantie: ervaringen die de grenzen tussen het zichtbare en het onzichtbare doen vervagen en je uitnodigen om op een andere manier te kijken, te voelen en te ervaren.
Op het programma onder meer de indringende documentaire SHELTER, waarin de makers je meenemen naar de schuilplekken waar Oekraïners bijna dagelijks bescherming zoeken tegen drones en raketten. De film is opgenomen op locatie in Kyiv, Lviv en Mykolaiv, en nabij de frontlinie. Je bent getuige van stille gesprekken tussen zwangere vrouwen in een ondergronds kraamcentrum en een verscheurende soldatenbegrafenis.
Daarnaast ook de Belgische VR-hit THE GREAT ESCAPE waarin je als kijker als derde geranium vast zit op de vensterbank in de woonkamer van Patrick, een eenzame man. De geraniums vervelen zich dood en zijn constant gefrustreerd – met zichzelf, de vensterbank en Patrick. Ze dromen ervan de wereld te zien, maar zijn letterlijk aan hun plaats geworteld. Wat volgt is een stevige existentiële crisis…

👤 Bram Crols is a Belgian filmmaker and visual artist whose work delves into identity, memory, and the emotional landscapes of the human experience. With roots in visual anthropology, his documentaries blur the lines between reality and introspection, often unfolding like visual poems.
🌍 Storyline: After her parents' divorce, Melina lives with her grandparents but wants to be with her mother. On her 9th birthday, she takes her custody case to court, hoping to choose her custodian, unaware of the complexities involved.
