Asclepios Lab at EPFL Space Day🛰️
Last Friday, on May 8th, @epfl_space_center organized EPFL Space Day, showcasing EPFL research, courses, associations, and startups in relation to space.
Our president Melani Cvetkovska had the wonderful opportunity to present our recent projects and highlight everything our association has accomplished over the past year. 👩🏻🚀
Furthermore, we had a fantastic time engaging with students in the exhibition area, introducing them to the world of Asclepios Lab, and discussing exciting future opportunities. It was also a valuable space to connect with various industry companies to spark new potential collaborations.
A true highlight of the event was the chance to chat with the legendary Swiss astronaut Claude Nicollier! We are incredibly grateful for the invaluable guidance he has shared with us since the very beginnings of Asclepios, and we are thrilled to have his continued mentorship and support for our spacesuit team moving forward. 🧑🚀✨
Having @epfl_space_center supporting us and hosting such an event is truly invaluable, and we are excited to continue our tight collaboration!
A true full-circle moment for our leadership! 🇲🇰🇨🇭
This past weekend, our President Melani traveled to Macedonia to represent Asclepios Lab as a Mentor for the CASSINI Hackathon: Space for Water! 💧🌍
The best part of the story? The event was hosted and organized by Netaville, the very same place where our President used to work as a Community Manager. Going back to her roots, this time walking in as a mentor in the aerospace sector to guide brilliant minds using space tech for sustainability, was an incredibly proud moment for our whole team. 🚀✨
We love seeing our mission of making space accessible and impactful in action. Huge shoutout to the talented teams in Macedonia and the organizers at @netaville.mk and @gd_netcetera for an unforgettable weekend of innovation!
🚀 Dress Rehearsal 2026 🧑🚀
Asclepios members gathered on the EPFL campus from April 16–19 to prepare for our longer summer mission. The analogue astronauts completed a 24-hour simulation in a base, while the team as a whole completed science and medical trainings, Mission Control training, and broader operational and procedural preparation. Stay tuned for a more in-depth look at what we do at Asclepios!
International Women’s Day is more than a celebration. It is a reminder.
A reminder to all women and to everyone around us that our voices, ideas and work matter. That we belong in the spaces where decisions are made, where innovation happens and where the future is built.
Being part of the engineering and space community makes this reminder even more meaningful. Women are not just observers of progress. We are contributors, engineers, researchers, and creators shaping what comes next.
Today is a moment to recognize that we are here, we are part of this journey. Our presence in science, engineering and the space sector truly matters.
Happy International Women’s Day 🚀💫

🚀 Analogue space missions are one of the most powerful ways to prepare for future Moon and Mars exploration. By recreating space-like conditions here on Earth, students and researchers can test technology, refine procedures, and train for the challenges of real astronaut operations.
Asclepios Lab—an association recognized by EPFL—develops engineering solutions designed specifically for analogue missions, bridging education, research, and hands-on experimentation.
✨ Their work focuses on five key projects:
1️⃣ Spacesuit Design
Developing realistic EVA suits with modular helmets, integrated communications, enhanced safety features, and components engineered for adaptability during analogue missions.
2️⃣ Base Design
Designing functional and comfortable lunar-habitat interiors, including living quarters, an airlock system, and a rocket room environment compatible with VR and mission simulations.
3️⃣ Launch Simulation
Building a mission simulation platform to model rocket launches, orbital mechanics, lunar transfers, landings, and Earth re-entry, integrating VR and physical systems for astronaut training.
4️⃣ Life Support & Environmental Control (ECLSS)
Creating systems for water recycling, resource monitoring, and sensor integration to support sustainable long-duration missions.
5️⃣ VR Environments
Developing immersive virtual reality simulations of lunar bases, surface activities, and spacecraft capsules to blend digital and physical mission training.
🌕✨ Through these projects, Asclepios Lab brings real engineering challenges to students while pushing forward the future of human space exploration.

👩🚀 Meet (part of) the Asclepios Lab Team!
We are excited to introduce part of the brilliant minds behind Asclepios Lab, an EPFL-recognized student association dedicated to advancing and developing space-related engineering projects.
We are missing a few members and our Base Design Team, due to scheduling conflicts or international placements, but they remain essential contributors to our ongoing work.
At Asclepios Lab, we unite students passionate about space engineering, systems design, mission development, and human spaceflight - transforming ideas into real prototypes and simulations that push the limits of what student teams can achieve.
We are proud of our dedication, teamwork and innovation shown by every member of our association.
Stay tuned for more updates on our progress! 🚀
🚀 Introducing our fifth and final project: VR Analogue Environment
🌒 Step onto the Moon without leaving Earth. Our VR Analogue Environment Project is bringing astronaut training and outreach into the digital age by developing an immersive virtual reality lunar mission experience.
The project will deliver:
🏠 Lunar Base Simulation - a realistic habitat interior where astronauts can train for daily operations.
🌑 Lunar Surface Environment - experience EVAs, exploration, and mission tasks on the Moon.
🚀 Rocket Capsule Simulation - practice launches, transfers, and landings inside a detailed spacecraft model.
With realistic graphics, physics, and interactive scenarios, this VR system supports astronaut training, education, and public outreach. It can also be paired with our analog base simulations, creating a powerful hybrid training environment that bridges digital and physical mission preparation.

🚀 Introducing our fourth project: ECLSS – Environmental Control & Life Support System Project
💧Survival on the Moon depends on one resource above all: water. Our ECLSS Project is tackling the challenge of designing a Lunar Base Water Collection and Management System to support analog astronaut missions in extreme environments.
The project will focus on:
💧 Water Collection & Recycling - creating a loop that reclaims and reuses water for drinking, hygiene, cooking, and science operations.
📊 Unified Tracking System - monitoring storage, usage, and recycling efficiency to ensure nothing goes to waste.
🔬 Sensor Integration - real-time tracking of water flow, quality, and consumption to optimize system performance.
This prototype will provide a foundation for sustainable lunar habitats, ensuring astronauts can live and work safely while conserving resources on long-duration missions. 🌍➡️🌑
In addition, there is room to explore related projects in areas like air revitalization, thermal control, and advanced recycling methods, further strengthening life support capabilities for future missions.

🚀 Introducing our third project: Launch Simulations
🛰️✨ How do we navigate through space, land on the Moon, or return safely to Earth? The answer lies in orbital mechanics, the science of spacecraft motion under gravity. This project brings those principles to life through a comprehensive mission simulation system, bridging theory with hands-on astronaut training.
The project will cover:
🌍 Rocket Launch & Liftoff - modeling the physics of takeoff from Earth.
🌙 Lunar Transfer & Orbit Operations - planning efficient trajectories and delta-v budgets.
🏠 Lunar Landing & Earth Re-entry - simulating mission-critical phases with accuracy and safety.
🎮 Mission Simulation Environment - software-based tools that can integrate with VR and physical systems for immersive astronaut training.
With this project, we aim to create a powerful mission analysis platform that supports training, research, and real-world mission design, turning orbital mechanics into a practical tool for future exploration.
