Congratulations on the grand opening of Lorikeet Park @skyridgeliving Art-Public are proud to be working with the team at Skyridge to deliver public artworks for this ambitious community development project. Our most recent work with Brisbane based sculptor, Phillip Piperides now open to the public for your enjoyment. ‘The Viewer’ By Philip Piperides @peridesartprojects Medium: Cast Bronze with 2-Pak Paint The Viewer’ interrupts a striking view of the Gold Coast skyline from Lorikeet Park, as a paradoxical reflection on our way of experiencing the world through the digital instead of delighting in the present. It is a playful invitation to consider the ways we engage with nature and how technology has preoccupied simple everyday moments. Here, the sculpture encourages photography, turning the magnificent view and artwork into a digital experience that is a reminder to put down devices and seek connection with the physical world. Skyridge’s mission to incorporate public art is an integral part of SkyRidge’s place making philosophy. Art will play a significant part in inspiring and uplifting our community, as well as shaping its character to leave a legacy for the future. Congratulations to co-partners @dbi_design @skyridgeliving

My last mural of the year is all wrapped up and I couldn’t be happier with the mark I’ve made on an area of my home town, the Gold Coast. Summer really hit its stride during the making of this, testing my Jedi mind tricks but I made it happen! In my artwork I celebrate the biodiversity of the Gold Coast. My artwork reflects the colourful scenes of the Gold Coast: the beaches, hinterland and native flora found in the area. I put a lot of thought into the local flora included. I have painted coastal plants such as coastal banksia, coastal wattle and grey guinea flower which is one of the many native plants that the City of Gold Coast encourages for local gardens and revegetation due to its ability to tolerate coastal conditions, including drought. You’ll also find the prickly leaved paperbark (a protected coastal plant), the swamp orchid (one of the most endangered Gold Coast flowers) and Vanilla Lily (bush tucker food). The white flowers are scented acronychia, a critically endangered small tree native to coastal areas, including the Gold Coast region. To celebrate the rainforest and hinterland in the area you’ll spot native ginger and flowering gum. This time I also added some little native bees which were keeping me company the whole mural..aww so special ❤️ My aim was to bring a fun, striking colour palette into Skyridge Botanica for its residents and visitors to the playground and park. I wanted to make it a talking piece across all demographics where you can discover something new, be educated, feel optimistic, cheerul and connect with nature. Thank you to @artwork.public for organising this project for me (Paul and @byron_c you are total champs) and to @skyridgeliving and the team for selecting me as the artist to bring this to life!

Art-Public recently delivered a small mural project for Tweed Shire Council in Budd Park, South Murwillumbah. The commissioned artist, Emilia Cilento @em_niwa is an Australian/Japanese muralist based on Gubbi Gubbi Country (Sunshine Coast, QLD). She was one of three artists invited to respond to the project brief. Em’s mural ‘Gugay River’ celebrates the region’s native flora and fauna, highlighting Murwillumbah’s deep connection to the river ecosystem and its community life. The ‘Gugay River’ is the original Bundjalung name for the Tweed River. From Emilia’s words: Gugay River show’s the richness of Murwillimbah’s Rainforest biodiversity, with human life present but surrounded by the beauty of wild nature. The flora and fauna featured in the piece are exclusive native and local to the area. A rich and varied colour palette is used alongside macro views of various species, to create a ‘larger than life’, vibrant slice of the ecosystem. The central element of the artwork is a group of people enjoying the outdoors, using the nearby Rail Trail and fishing in the tweed river. They are central, but very small- I wanted them to be dwarfed by flowers, insects, leaves and trees, to remind viewers of the vastness of nature and the wonder it can inspire. @em_niwa @tweedshirecouncil

Art-Work was engaged to rebrand Queen Street Village in Southport, revitalising the precinct with a refresh of its original identity. Art-Work began with early consultation identifying the village as a hub for the local Southport community. By addressing our own provocation tagline “The Village Heart of Southport“ the rebrand embraced warmth, connection and local heritage. AWs response was a bold, illustrative visual language using collage, typography, vintage photography, and archival imagery. A new wayfinding system was also developed to enhance the community experience, this included colour-coded pillar signage and hand-painted murals, enhancing navigation and accessibility to problem areas while utilising existing architectural infrastructure to interpret the message. The revitalised brand for QSV celebrates the precinct’s diverse offerings from retail and dining to healthcare and entertainment. The aim was to position the precinct as an inviting destination where locals gather, connect and feel belonging. @queenstvillage #southport

We begin to wrap up a chapter with the Murwillumbah Community Improvement District (CID) Pilot Project — a NSW Government-funded initiative lead by @businessmurwillumbah . Focusing on Proudfoots Lane in the heart of town, Art-Work Agency was invited to identify and curate public art activations for the project. Artists were invited to respond to the town’s cultural identity, natural beauty and heritage architecture with murals, lightboxes and temporal street activations. The project looks to reimagine Murwillumbah's CBD through creative placemaking and community engagement. Thea Skelsey’s - The Gilded Walkway (2025) - draws inspiration from the 1934 Austral Building’s art deco design — echoing its curves and geometry in a bold asphalt mural that links the laneway with local shops, the heritage architecture of the austral building and the riverside path connecting the Rail Trail. This is the final work completed for the project and a grand statement to the first iteration. Its a great success when public art has a meaningful connection to site and use by the community. 'The Gilded Walkway' 2025 by Thea Skelsey @thea__art Images @sallysinghcreative
