Pop Quiz: Do you know why this man is speaking into a mouthpiece?
No he's not a court reporter. He is an audio describer. Audio describers bring concerts, plays, dance performance, visual art exhibitions and films alive for people who are blind and have low vision through verbal descriptions. Want to learn more? Join us in the Arts Access Gallery for an Artist Talk with Annie Leist!
Saturday, November 8 from 1pm to 2pm
Annie Leist’s artwork evokes the light, color, and life of public spaces from the perspective of a pedestrian with low vision. Originally from North Carolina, she currently lives and works in New York City.
“Real Paintings” marks Leist’s first solo exhibition in her home state since 2017. The exhibition includes fresh reflections on familiar elements of urban architecture, including revolving doors, crosswalks, and scaffolding. It takes its name, however, from a brand new project exploring the tension between the world according to AI and the one created by the painter.
"What happens when you ask an AI chatbot for a verbal description of one of your paintings… and it describes a painting you never made?"
