Trash Stack #1 - Golden Calf
When I initially decided to make a black trash piece, I was thinking about black trash as a social class and wanted to highlight their contributions in the arts. When I think of black trash as a people I think of poor black people and music.
This work is an agglomeration of some of my personal trash that built up in my car over the course of a year. By working with found objects im essentially sampling -like in hip hop- past forms and reimagining them with new meanings and in new contexts.
The stack was intuitively made to create like nature, intuitively recycling from the debris of the forest to create creative new forms.
It's also trash covered in gold leaf to associate with a sense of value. I call it golden calf because of it's cow like pattern that the gold leaf was applied in and to question that creation of the evolution of experience creates false idols.
This is a black power symbol. Just as white trash for non whites suggests some form of white supremacy a large black trash stack covered in gold suggests the black power found intrinsically in even the poorest members of society.
In the Clouds
This image is of an empty city somewhere in the clouds.
I wanted to expand on 3d illusion by building a 3d canvas. The resulting image was made through first iteration intuition.
The Shagroom
@elsewheremuseum
Repetative Process, labor, intuition guided the production of this piece. Originally drawn to the desire to create some kind of depth field with fabric, because of how the material hanged, and due to the history of the room as once being a brothel, I decided to call it the Shagroom.
One effect I remember was the feeling of past lives associated with the clothing material found in elsewhere's storage from it's thrift shop days felt when experiencing the piece.
Took a few days planning but this video shows production over 2-3 weeks.
Rainbow City Drawings
A few of the drawings made during a stay in San Francisco where I lived in bunk bed 3 person to a room, then later a van, sleeping in various in various scenic locations.
I made this self portrait using various facebook profile filters. Saw this after a while and forgot how happy I was with the results.
I like it because it's a self portrait made using contemporary media in a novel way.

Blind Americana
In the Republic, Socrates argues that the flaw of democracy is that ignorant the brainwashed masses can be manipulated to vote against their self interests. I'm not saying democracy is wrong but I am saying I can see Socrates point.
Trash here is used to represent American consumerist values and the debris created as result. Here though the cans as debris flowers, are next to fake flower petals set on a found window blind. The flowers may represent both the illusion of sustaining spectacle driving late stage capitalism and creativity flourishing intuitively from debris like nature. The cans were mostly beer that me and my studio mates drank while in residence @chq.art and they represent a society drunk on its illusions.
