Happy Typographics 2025! Here’s my 15-second sponsor ad spot for the conference. I love this event, and it’s always a big highlight of the NYC summer. If you’re also at the conference this weekend, please say hello! - #typographicsnyc #typographics #typedesign

You have to see this animation by @jesi_rgb ! He (Jesús Rascón) did such a fantastic job on it. - Name Sans was a project conceived as a variable font from the beginning, and the possibilities of animation drove many key design decisions, like giving it as wide of a weight range as reasonably possible, giving it a continuous Italic axis, and making sure glyph forms could smoothly interpolate across the full range of styles. So, I’m so excited that Jesús wanted to bring Name Sans Variable to life with a reel like this! - These animations were created by Jesús with a mix of @coldtypexyz and @cavalry.app , and set to original music by Jesús. In his words: “Every part of the animation has meaning behind it. The squares throughout represent the subway mosaic tiles that Name Sans was inspired by. The animation explores the variable ranges, but it also highlights a few of the less obvious OpenType features. It uses ColdType to sync up the MIDI beat to the font and grid animations, and then Calvary for other sequences and to put it all together.” - I’m blown away by how well Jesús put all of this together – even for a pretty quick project – and how he took my design feedback and made the promising original drafts really come together and shine. If you want to animate your own fonts, logos, infographics, or more, I 100% recommend reaching out to @jesi_rgb ! - #kinetictype #variablefonts  #typography #type #branding #typedesign #coldtype #namesans

(I remade this loop to be ~10% better and deleted an earlier post. I have also just published a fix of some kerning quirks in Kyrios, so please consider this a Kyrios v1.331 announcement.) - AT Kyrios v1 is 🔊 NOW LIVE 🔊! Get in on my website (ArrowType dot com) or via @futurefonts . If you’ve already bought a license, check into the website for a free upgrade! - A lot of love went into this type family. Process article coming soon! - Thanks to @robrushstenson for the amazing Blender plugin ST2, which enabled me to do this cool variable font animation, and for some great advice when I was hitting a render blocker! - #variablefonts #typography #fonts #kyrios #blender

AT Name Mono v1 is now live! Find on ArrowType.com and at @futurefonts . This update extends the weight range all the way from Black to Thin, adds a full set of code ligatures and box drawing glyphs, and brings in many subtle improvements made along the way. For the past couple of years, I have used this font (almost) every day as a font engineer, in the scripting and work around building and fixing fonts. That, plus a lot of focused design and testing work, led to the form it has today. - Thanks also to the very skilled @hellolisahuang for some helpful design and production contributions, and to @robrushstenson for creating the Blender plugin ST2, which helped make this animation. - #typedesign #code #variablefonts #blender #namemono

I’m very pleased to share that “A Very Long Now,” by @aplaceintheuniverse in collaboration with H James Lucas, using AT Name Sans, is a @typedirectors #tdc72 award winner! - This video shows video of the artwork which I hadn’t seen before, and it’s gorgeous! Many thanks to @visionandverve for the excellent footage. - Shout outs also go to Kuhn Design for structural engineering, 900 North Studio for fabrication and installation, the city of Forth Worth, TX, and Iris Bechtol for curation. This TDC award is shared by this whole big group of people, and I’m just excited to have made a small contribution. It’s awesome seeing where letters can go! - #namesans #sculpture #typography #architecture

Custom version of AT Name Sans in use by StreetEasy for their 2026 campaign, “Be a Forever New Yorker.” I think this is the first time an ArrowType font has been in use in a campaign on the Subway, which is pretty awesome, as Name Sans is inspired by the mosaic name tablets of the Subway system! The campaign also features FK Screamer, by @floriankarsten . - #typography #branding #namesans #nycsubway #fkscreamer

AT Name Sans // I’m taking a class on Blender and ST2 from @robrushstenson , and I’m absolutely having my mind blown by what Blender+ST2+fonts makes possible. Here are some interpretations of Name Sans Display Hairline to bolder weights. This app makes it so fun to have a font like Name Sans that goes truly thin. Next on my agenda: figuring out some animations, and maybe also figuring out where/how to make sounds to go with them. - #variablefonts #blender #st2 #namesans

Blender font proof? Here’s AT Kyrios. This weird joke did actually help me see a couple of opportunities to further refine the ss01 blackletter caps, which will be a main upgrade in an upcoming release. - #kyrios #blender #gregorianchant

Permutations of swash caps in AT Lang Italic (for the next update, currently in the works). Most uppercase letters in the family have distinct swash forms for initial, medial, and finial positions within words, and exploring the permutations of these has been a helpful way for me to consider how these designs fit together, and where to improve them. - #typedesign #variablefonts #drawbot #atlang
