Juggling came naturally to @davidmartin.work but only later did he realise his vocation could become a profession. Studying at the preparatory circus school in Bagneux at @lepluspetitcirquedumonde and later in Stockholm at @skhcircus , his process of creation expanded into conceptualising, adding layers, ordinary objects, manipulations and combinations, prop-making, and inventions. @davidmartin.work is a French author interested in creating what he calls “poetic shocks with words and object manipulation”, a synesthetic way of seeing props used while they inhabit the space. Before becoming 2025 @circusnext laureates, @jefeveraert and @marica_marinoni attended the same schools, first training at @scuolaflic in Italy, and then graduating from @le_cnac in France. Anna Sandreuter introduced 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗸. 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸, a project exploring the value of textile labour. Cie Fenfire presented 𝗜𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸?, a hybrid format at the interface of circus and installation. @contakt_circus introduced 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘆, a participatory journey combining live music and hand-to-hand interaction. @hanschitz.beierer shared 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹.𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁, blending dance and collective interdependency through the cyr wheel. @idiom_kulturverein presented 𝗱𝗶𝘀.𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿, deconstructing gender attributions from a feminist perspective. @olivia.platzer introduced 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗹𝗲, a clownish storytelling piece, and @toechter_der_kunst presented 𝗨̈𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗻, women who conquer the sea, break the mould and defy traditional role models. On 7 and 8 November 2025, @ontheedgefestival in Vienna hosted for the first time in Austria a symposium to represent and make visible contemporary circus. For the second day at 𝗢𝗡 𝗖𝗜𝗥𝗖𝗨𝗦 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 by @theretherecompany in collaboration with @theateropdemarkt , 𝗢𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆: 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗩𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗚𝗶𝗯𝗲́ reveals the two authors’ distinct approaches to staging objects, opening up what scenography can be and do within contemporary circus.
