'War is immoral. Getting orders but no answers.' I have always had a weak spot for Liaisons D's Faces of Horror. Not just because of it's great vocal sampling from Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now (1979), but also because of it's crossgenre approach. Produced by the likes of @frankdewulf and Paul Ward this track definitely added something innovative to the already expanding world of New Beat, Acidhouse and EBM. Truly, 'New Beat'. And Kurtz's message remains ever relevant...
Metropolis, a German one-album wonder from 1991. "The Gulf War is over, however this doesn't mean everything is alright again. We did produce that record to remind you that the 20th century still is the Time of War", the producers wrote. While their statement remains eerily relevant today, their track does too. High energy, captivating vocals and some serious punch š„

The track that got me into this musical journey. Time Modem's Insensitive World (1990) is an atmospheric and moody track at the intersection of New Beat, Electro and early Techno. Produced by the two brothers Joachim and Ulrich Wilhelm, their whole album became the hallmark of what came to be known as the Sound of Frankfurt. Truly a masterpiece and musical heritage worth keeping alive! And of course a track that I had to play at @future.intel š„

Some tracks are too good to be left unshared. One of my all time favourites: Not Leaving Without Jerry by Philadelphia Five (1988).
Created by the Belgian duo Mark Borgions and Jo Lijnen, the track merges propelling synths, surgical percussion and ominous samples from the movie Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) into a dark and energeticĀ composition. Heavily leaning towards EBM, yet produced in the era of New Beat, their tracks were dark yet playful: 'To us, it was about fun as well and we wanted to nuance things a bit', says Mark. 'We didn't really identify with the New Beat trend.' This year, @philadelphiafive_official reunited for the first time in decades to perform their album and new material at the legendary @ombrafestival
To make history even more alive, New York collector and producer @andi80s took a spin with the track and created an amazing, dancefloor-ready remix of the original. It was released last year on @cursesforever phenomenal @nextwaveacidpunx series. Be sure to check out both versions!
We love supporting local talent and this time weāre spotlighting an artist who brings his own distinct flavour to the series. TR214 comes from Utrecht-based DJ @argento__89 , whose sound draws from late-80s EBM, Synthpop, and New Beat.
