It seems there’s no better time to officially announce my upcoming @331.3books on @thecure ’s Disintegration than on @robertsmith ’s birthday 🖤 🥀🥀🥀 This book begs the question: why should an album make you feel good? By way of Charles Baudelaire’s poem, “Spleen,” the book deconstructs the grueling story of The Cure’s masterpiece Disintegration—one fitful heartbreak at a time. Much like Smith, Baudelaire took his temperament and softened the edges of sorrow, transforming it into a mass of supercharged emotion: a tenuous concoction of sin and sex, lust and monstrosity, self-hatred and fear… all cauterized by the malaise (and acceptance) of eternal melancholy. It’s here that The Cure’s upheaval and Smith’s heroic martyrdom became the catalyst for his masterpiece. 🥀🥀🥀 It will be (fittingly) released on October 1st but is already available for preorder on the @bloomsburypublishing website. I’m also beginning to prepare release parties all over the US and Europe—hit me up with your favorite bookstores and lecture-friendly / listening party venues! Can’t wait to share this extremely precious book with all of you 🖤
