A workplace proposal for the rangers of Norfolk Island National Park.
Shaped by the island’s layered history, climate and vernacular building typologies, the proposal offers a flexible workplace embedded within its sensitive landscape setting.
A central courtyard draws light deep into the workspaces and down to the lower undercroft, where wash bays, machinery and other utilitarian services are housed. Open, adaptable interiors support the varied needs of the ranger team, while visual connections between levels bring together the different activities of the building.
Communal and welcoming, the proposal opens towards the surrounding forest, creating a workplace that supports daily operations while keeping the rangers closely connected to the landscape they care for.
Wonderful to learn Ora House has been shortlisted for the AIA Victorian Architecture Awards.
Arrival into this home unfolds through a sequence of path, threshold, and garden, both intentional and restrained. The architecture will gradually be absorbed into landscape; a composed ground of masonry, timber, and planting that allows the house to recede over time. Congratulations to the whole project team.

In Progress - Tooborac House The structure emerges in its most reduced form, revealing the underlying logic of its making.

Set against an exposed coastal edge, this commercial alteration/addition project reimagines a beloved island institution, grounding a new era of gathering in the tangible provenance of its materials.
The extension adopts a mid-century inspired post-and-beam vernacular, constructed entirely from timber harvested and milled on the client’s nearby farm. This structural rhythm not only defines the new function spaces and restaurant overflow but acts as a necessary windbreak, shielding the garden from the site’s spectacular outlook.

Walkway House, on Victoria’s Bass Coast, is defined by an external galvanised steel walkway that wraps around the upper level and encloses a central courtyard featuring a bespoke curved concrete chimney. Enclosed in steel mesh, native plants will envelope this structure within a few years.

Currently on site in regional Victoria: perched on a rolling, windswept site, Tooborac House is choreographed between monumental granite boulders, using the geology of the land to offer a sense of permanence and protection. This dwelling adopts an agrarian exterior of FC sheeting and perforated metal — a robust, utilitarian shell designed to weather the exposure of the open landscape.

Wonderful to see these special clients move in to this Melbourne project just in time for Christmas. This home has been a mammoth effort, so enormous thanks in particular to @resicon_masterbuilders , @_openwork , @candour.cc , Living Landscapes, @studio.a.mi and of course, our clients.

Full-height curtains provide privacy while filtering daylight, creating a gentle, atmospheric glow. While vibrant blue inner showering nook hides a double shower beneath a tall skylight, creating a space that celebrates the simple act of bathing through shifting light and shadow.
