Which one is your favorite???😍 Architecture that accommodates trees instead of displacing them, These projects demonstrate how nature can be accommodated by built space rather than destroyed. There is more to incorporating trees into design than just aesthetics. It enhances air quality, controls microclimates, and produces psychological advantages linked to our natural affinity for the natural world. In order to create rooms that both repair and shelter, light, air, and flora become crucial architectural components. ___________ ❶ 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗮 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗲 📐Designed by @psbarquitectos ©️📷 Photo by @ivotavaresstudio 📍#Ovar, #Portugal🇵🇹 ❷ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗲 𝗜’𝗘𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝗡𝗼𝘂𝘃𝗲𝗮𝘂 📐Designed by Le Corbusier ©️📷 Photo by @matteocarassale 📍#Bologna BO, #Italy🇮🇹 ❸ 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗕𝗼𝘅 📐Designed by @equipodearquitectural ©️📷 Photo by Leonardo Mendez - @peskamboi 📍#Asuncion, #Paraguay🇵🇾 ❹ 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 📐Designed by Johan Selfing + Anouk Vogel ©️📷 Photo by Louise Tanguay 📍#Canada🇨🇦 ❺ 𝗟𝗣𝟮 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 📐Designed by @paz_arquitectura ©️📷 Photo by @andresasturias 📍Guatemala City, #Guatemala🇬🇹 ❻ 𝗔𝘀𝘄𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼 📐Designed by @aswa_bangkok ©️📷 Photo by Phuttipan Aswakool 📍#Bangkok, #Thailand🇹🇭 ❼ 𝗠 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 📐Designed by @saavedraarquitectos ©️📷 Photo by @ricardodelaconcha 📍Valle de Bravo, #Mexico🇲🇽 . . . . . The project is located in the core area of the old town of Pengzhou city, with a millennium-old temple: Longxing Temple, and a lot of historic old streets. This area is bustling with various restaurants, and teahouses, which are lining up one after another, form the most identifiable urban area in Pengzhou. However, the general conditions here are quite dilapidated, with many low-rise buildings mainly built in the 1970s and 1980s. The north of Longxing Temple there were lots of factories, most of which had already ceased production. Since 2019, the government has decided to invest in and guide the renovation of this area, in which the main functions involve commerce, culture, hotels, and residences. 𝘙𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘨𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘗𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘻𝘩𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘺. We make sure there is a financial achievement in both the “balance of development costs” and the “balance of operating costs”. Then the plan in this area about the total construct volume and the distribution ratio of different functions was made. The separation and integration of the commercial and cultural functions were achieved under the criteria of “Functional segmentation and dynamic integration”. 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 | by 𝗚𝗶𝗷𝘀 𝗩𝗮𝗻 𝗩𝗮𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗵 Gijs Van Vaerenbergh: The permanent artwork Reading Between the Lines was conceived as part of an exhibition of art in the public space, organized by the Hasselt museum Z33. Situated in the picturesque landscape near the village of Borgloon, the structure is formally based on the archetype of the local parish church. It is constructed as a stacking of horizontal layers, each forming a horizontal cross-section of the floorplan of the church. Roughly 2,000 small, supporting columns keep these horizontal layers at equal distances from each other. From a distance, the light, almost floating-like appearance of the layers makes the structure seem virtually transparent. With its sheer see-through structure, the artwork appears almost like a mirage. As visitors move closer and around the artwork, the lines of the horizontal layers visually change. The work appears to become more solid, revealing clearly defined window openings and a roof vault. As one looks at the building, one is automatically also looking at the landscape (both in a physical and cultural sense). The work is not intended for a specific use, but rather functions as a point of reference in its environment. 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗨𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘀 & 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 | by 𝗛&𝗣 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 H&P Architects: Located adjacent to a new urban area in Mao Khe town, the construction site lies within a square plot surrounded by long-established agricultural fields owned by multiple local households. The house is named CUBE (Creative Usage of Bricks & Earth) and takes its identity from both its geometric form and inherent meaning, where Earth and brick are not merely treated as “materials” but embody the crystallization of Vietnam’s geographical conditions, traditional craftsmanship, and climate-responsive adaptation. Conceptually, the project can be seen as a typical modular accommodation unit comprising three interrelated elements but designed and realized in a vertical, alternate pattern: the perforated brick screen as a transitional climate filter, the courtyard as a void for multiple functions, and the earth-based garden. The bamboo screen, courtyard, and earth-based garden are defining features of traditional Vietnamese housing. In this three-story residence, they are, however, developed and recreated. The exterior envelope is structured into three layers - a perforated brick wall, a ventilated air gap, and sliding doors, which enable the architecture to respond effectively to the monsoon tropical climate. The interior features a sequence of voids flexibly arranged and connects private spaces with the remaining areas of the house. 𝟴𝟯 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗮𝗺 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁 | by 𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘 Architectural design of a podium hosting a set of twin towers. The podium consists of a centrepiece of cascading parametric landscape of steps which winds its way up and down, left and right, connecting each level of the separated podium as a public space. Under the pair of cascading steps is a two tier reconfigurable and multifunction auditorium. 𝗔 𝗣𝗜𝗫𝗘𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗦𝗖𝗔𝗣𝗘 The podium is made up of 3 levels and comprises four main program components: 1) commercial retail and F&B shops, 2) two main office lobby entrances for each of the twin towers, 3) a reconfigurable and multifunction auditorium, and finally 4) a large continuous green landscape which extends from the second floor down to the ground level. Forming the centerpiece of all this is a cascading landscape of steps – the ‘feature steps’ – which rhythmically winds its way up and down, left and right, connecting each level of the separated podium. Its parametric surface is expressed as a series of pixelated steps with varying heights, thereby creating a landscape of stairs, seats, and planters. At the top of the podium, the pixelated steps conglomerate into another landscape of tree planters and green walls, blending into the site’s rising green back-drop. In addition to effectively linking the base of the two towers, this fabricated landscape, and its curated greenery is meant to be an intentional extension of the natural green mountainside into the city’s urban fabric. 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮 𝗡𝗼𝘂𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗩𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗲 | by 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀™️ 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 Magalie Munters™️ Architecture: Conceived as a sculpted mass within the North Sea dunes of Oostduinkerke, Villa Nouvelle Vague emerges from an investigation into organic geometries that liberate architecture from conventional construction constraints. The curved concrete volume references both protective seashells and the modernist boat-shaped Normandie restaurant, establishing a dialogue between natural forms and modernist heritage. The villa’s strategic positioning tapers toward the rear of the plot, creating a generous garden while enabling sunlight to strike both southern and western façades. This geometric shift allows light to continuously wrap the building throughout the day — a sophisticated response to compact coastal conditions. Spatially, the design operates through vertical stratification: bedrooms are anchored within the dunes while living spaces rise toward the horizon. The main living area is accessed through a dramatic vertical shaft that continues upward to the roof, opening into a space of calculated variation. The kitchen maintains intimacy through lower ceilings, while the opposite end expands toward panoramic views, with the ceiling rising to frame the sea beyond. 𝗬𝗮𝘄 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 by 𝗞𝗪𝗞 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 | 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗞𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗲𝗰𝘇𝗻𝘆 KWK PROMES: This house was not built in opposition to the terrain – it was shaped by it. Located in the Beskid Mountains, on a demanding plot with a distinct slope, the house quite literally “yaws” – turning toward the southern exposure, embedding itself in the topography and surrounding landscape. We started with a classic gabled form, set parallel to the neighboring buildings, reflecting the local architectural context. But one simple gesture – a rotation, a yaw (in aviation: movement around the vertical axis) – allowed us not only to anchor the house into the slope, but also to intuitively divide it into zones and open it up where it was most needed. The result is a clear functional layout: at the front, the entrance zone and technical area, tailored to the owner’s passion for off-roading and automotive pursuits; on the garden side, an open-plan living area that embraces the greenery, sunlight, and views on the ground floor, and a private night zone located upstairs. During construction, something happened that no one had anticipated – one of the residents required intensive rehabilitation. That is when the idea of a swimming pool emerged. It was a moment that called for flexibility – how do you add a pool to a building already under construction without disrupting the entire concept? Integrating it into the existing design was a real challenge, but in the end, it did not disturb the whole – quite the opposite, it completed it... 𝗢𝗟𝟲 | by 𝗝𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗳𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲 - @jan.lefevere Architect Jan Lefevere transformed a former dental practice from 1962 into a bright and inviting family home. The building had been neglected and vacant for many years. The previous owner had closed it off and used the space as storage. Over time, the new adjacent buildings had blocked much of the light. To address this issue, a scale model of the surrounding area was created, including all the new nearby buildings. The existing building was placed as a solid block in the model. It was studied how light beams could penetrate deeply into the house. These light beams were literally transferred onto the solid block in the model, resulting in large round openings. This design methodology led to significant changes, with the largest visual statement being made by casting a large circular opening in the concrete slab above the kitchen and living area. In doing so, the room above was sacrificed, creating a spacious void that allowed light to penetrate deep into the home. This was both a structural and aesthetic challenge, as the concrete slab supports a large portion of the existing house. Valuable original elements of the building, such as the staircase, sanitary fixtures, lighting, and cabinet panels, were preserved during demolition and given a new place within the home. When restoring the stairwell, the original in-situ cast concrete was revealed, which had never been intended to be visible. However, we were charmed by the imprint of the wooden formwork and replicated this look in the new concrete, so it is not always clear what is original and what has been added later. The glass blocks – Lumax, designed by Le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand – which had previously been hidden, were uncovered and restored. ©️📷 @lucroymans 📍#Kortrijk, #Belgium🇧🇪 . . . 𝗧𝗔𝗢 𝗭𝗛𝗨 𝗬𝗜𝗡 𝗬𝗨𝗔𝗡 | by 𝗩𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗮𝘂𝘁 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀, Paris - @vincentcallebautarchitectures Where Architecture Becomes Spiraling Forest, LEED Platinum Certified Vincent Callebaut Architectures: The main target of « Tao Zhu Yin Yuan » project has been devoted to promoting carbon‐absorbing architecture, in order to decrease the temperature of the Earth. Faced with the crisis of global warming and climate change, it is must be participation of all enterprises in urging the governments to draft incentive programs that world lead to carbon reduction in the sector of industry, transportation and daily life. This project also carries out Fan’s Li philosophy and think of the world as one community. It makes changes that bring benefits to not only ourselves but to neighbor or even the entire world. The architectural concept is to eco‐design an energy selfsufficient building, whose energy is electric, thermal and also alimentary. The “Tao Zhu Yin Yuan” tower is directly inspired of the structure in double helix of the DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid), source of life, dynamism and twinning. Every double helix is represented in the project by two housing units forming a full level. Thus, from its base to the top, the 20 inhabited levels in double helix stretch themselves and twist themselves at 90 degrees. Tao Zhu Yin Yuan presents a pioneer concept of sustainable residential eco‐construction that aims at limiting the ecologic footprint of its inhabitants by researching the right symbiosis between the human being and the Nature. Part of the concept of inhabited and cultivated vertical farm through its own inhabitants, this project of residential tower enables first to design by its avant-gardist architecture a new lifestyle in accordance with the nature and the climate.
