Last week to view! “Departures that Brought Us Here” at the Vladem Contemporary (@newmexicoartmuseum ) Window Box Project space in Santa Fe closes soon. This installation blends LGBTQ+ archival research with the rhythmic motion of a split-flap display board, to explore transitions, movement, and collective memory. It shares messages, reflections, and stories from the LGBTQ+ community, creating a living archive. Stepping into another decade has me reflecting on when I was diagnosed with lymphoma at 21, I didn’t know what the future would hold, I didn’t know if I would get to be here, let alone celebrate another decade of life. Being here now feels deeply meaningful in a way that’s hard to put into words. Thank you all so much for the birthday wishes, and to everyone who came out to celebrate at my surprise party (yes, I was surprised), I’m still overwhelmed. Thank you @cbwdeluxe1 for organizing such an incredible gathering and being the best boyfriend a guy to hope for. It meant so much to be surrounded by such a warm, talented, and genuine group of people. I feel incredibly lucky. I’m also so grateful for my family and friends who have shown up with love and support over the years, you’ve carried me through more than you know. Here’s to all of you who make life so full ❤️

Currently on view in Santa Fe at @kouricorrao Queer lives are often read first through compulsory legibility. “Heartthrob”, through abstractions becomes a way to speak from inside bodily experience, layered, altered, and still desiring without surrendering the body to exposure. It imagines queerness and intimacy as shifting, sometimes volatile architectures that hold the trace of the body while refusing to make it available as evidence.

Some photos from last Sunday, The Tea, presented by the NMS Majestic Dancers, a tea dance in Nob Hill. Hosted by Steven Westman at 9 Smoky Note, the space pulsed with DJ sets by Eldon and Justin Roberts (Architects of Rhythm), go-go dancers, and a packed room that felt both elevated and inclusive. @newmexicostrippers | @djeldon

Huge congrats to @delilah.montoya on “Activating Chicana Resistance” at the @abqmuseum . What an incredible, deeply rooted, and powerful retrospective. It’s been such a gift having a studio next to you all these years, witnessing your commitment to community, history, and resistance up close has meant more than I can say. Your work continues to teach, challenge, and hold space for so many stories that need to be seen. And bravo to Dr. @josiemlopez for the thoughtful, necessary curatorial vision bringing this monumental body of work together so beautifully.

@kouricorrao Apolo Gomez’s solo exhibition grips our deeply rooted detachment from person-to-person connection and ultimately asks us to re-enter human relationships. Heartthrob is currently on view through December 20.

Core brings this abstraction into direct relation with the body. In these smaller works, Polaroid emulsion lifts, delicate, skin-like membranes are embedded within circular fields of color and terrain. One image holds two queer bodies leaning into one another, their limbs softly overlapping, a quiet gesture of intimacy suspended within an abstracted landscape.
