MAESTRO & THE PROTÉGÉ (Reflections of a Sound Community) is an intimate and immersive musical experience that explores the living relationship between legacy and emergence within South African jazz.
Framed through the symbolic dynamic of mentor and student, the performance brings together Andile Yenana and Apiwe Bubu in a shared sonic space shaped by dialogue, influence and continuity.
At its core, the evening is not about hierarchy, but about exchange-how knowledge, feeling, and cultural memory move between generations.
Yenana, a master of introspective depth and disciplined expression, represents a lineage of thought, sound, and spiritual inquiry within South African jazz. Bubu, in turn, embodies a searching and responsive voice-absorbing, reinterpreting and extending that lineage into new territories.
