Lygia Clark. Retrospective May 23–October 12, 2025 Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin “Brazilian artist Lygia Clark (1920-1988) stands as one of the most influential figures in 20th-century art, celebrated as a radical re-definer of the very concept of art. […] This extensive publication accompanying the major retrospective offers an accessible and thorough overview of Lygia Clark’s trailblazing artistic practice. It presents the evolution of Clark’s work from 1950 through the 1980s, covering her geometric-abstractions, participatory sculptures, and performative, therapeutic pieces.” @neuenationalgalerie Published by: Neue Nationalgalerie, Irina Hiebert Grun, Maike Steinkamp, Kunsthaus Zürich, Cathérine Hug, E.A. Earlier this year we were invited to pitch the new visual identity for the interim season of @volksbuehne_berlin How do you capture the enormous legacy and unruly reputation of one of the most influential theatres worldwide? And all of that just for one season awaiting the new artistic directors Matthias Lilienthal and Florentina Holzinger. At the core of our proposal lies the typeface ‘Berthold Schwere Block’ which was designed in Berlin in the 1920s just shortly after the Volksbühne was constructed. The rough and heavy letters have a lot in common with the loud and daring history of the house and stand as a counterpoint to sanitized and digitalized branding aesthetics. The system holding together the visual identity is based on simple principles for quick and easy reproduction without loosing its inherent punch. Unfortunately our proposal was not selected, still it was a lot o fun working it out and presenting it to the great team at Volksbühne. LYGIA CLARK. Retrospective First impressions from yesterday’s preview – opening of the exhibition today, Thursday, May 22, 2025, 7pm The Neue Nationalgalerie is presenting Brazilian artist Lygia Clark’s (1920–1988) first retrospective in Germany. With around 120 artworks, the comprehensive exhibition in the upper hall shows her oeuvre from the late 1940s to the 1980s, ranging from geometric-abstract paintings to participatory sculptures and performances. The interactive approach in Clark’s work will be a central aspect of the exhibition. Visitors can interact with a large number of replicas created especially for the show. Thank you to everyone involved! It was a great pleasure! ❤️ Client: @neuenationalgalerie Curators: @maikstein , @hiebert.irina Assistant Curator: Sarah Hampel Exhibition coordination: Anna Viehhoff Exhibition architecture: @bachdolder Exhibition graphics by Any Studio: @jakobkornelli , @katerinatrakakis , @maxedelberg , @nandalaja Typeface: ABC Oracle by @abcdinamo Photography © Any Studio

„Lanzarote is not just an island. It’s a paradox, a playground of contradictions where nature’s raw power collides with human ambition. It stands as a living testament to what happens when utopian ideals, volcanic landscapes, and architectural visionaries like César Manrique intersect—and clash.“ (F.F.) The first edition of Building Paradise is a homage to Lanzarote, it’s beauty, its contradictions and all its rough edges. We translated @fabianfreytag ’s vision of something between coffee table book and travel journal into this lava-esque brick full of stunning views, utopian architecture and funky layers of both archeological and touristic origin. Thank you to everyone involved in this fun and rewarding project!
