This Singapore Art Week, ANTZ presents "Field Test", a pop-up studio exhibition at Gillman Barracks.
Conceived as the companion to his precinct-wide installation "The Last Tree Was a Building", "Field Test" offers a look across ANTZ’s practice alongside a closer view of how his ideas take shape. The exhibition brings together sketches, prototypes, visual studies, and working materials, while also showcasing key motifs and characters that have defined his work over time. Familiar elements of urban signage are reworked into playful visual narratives, shifting from instruction to expression.
The exhibition invites curiosity, humour, and close looking. It is a space where experimentation, world-building, and the foundations of the larger project come into focus.

This Singapore Art Week, ANTZ reimagines Gillman Barracks through a two-part activation.
“The Last Tree Was a Building” places large-scale inflatable monkey sculptures across the precinct, turning familiar spaces into unexpected encounters. By inserting these playful yet watchful figures into the urban fabric of Gillman Barracks, the work invites curiosity, amusement, and reflection on how nature, memory, and architecture collide in the contemporary city, and how life adapts and endures within increasingly built environments.
Accompanying the installation is “Field Test”, a pop-up studio exhibition that offers a closer look into ANTZ’s creative process, from sketches and prototypes to working materials that trace the evolution of his ideas.
Playful on the surface and quietly pensive beneath, the project explores resilience, survival, and finding new footing at the edges of the urban landscape.
