Meet Antonis Pittas, one of the new ambassadors for Amsterdam Art Week 2025 — an artist known for his powerful, thought-provoking installations that resonate far beyond the gallery walls.
Based in Amsterdam, Pittas creates context-sensitive works that delve into contemporary social and political issues, always grounded in a deep awareness of history. Drawing from architecture, design, art history and performance, his installations explore the tension between past and present, with recurring themes of destruction, decay and resistance.
Pittas studied in Athens, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam and has been artist-in-residence at Bard College in New York, with an upcoming residency at ISCP New York in 2024. Alongside his practice, he teaches at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and lectures widely across Europe and the United States.
