There has been rising violence and intimidation from racists groups, targeting refugees living in hotels across East London and the country. We live locally, and are part of an anti-racist group who want to support and be in solidarity with migrants living in our community. We’ve created this resource with our friends at @migrantsorganise . You can find the flyer version of this in English, Arabic, Amharic, Sohrani and Tigrinya in our linktree in our bio (https://linktr.ee/antiraidhackney)

In yet another escalation of state surveillance and control, the police are rolling out 'Drones as first Responders (DFR)'. DFR means police will dispatch drones fitted with facial recognition and thermal imaging software to the scene of a call to police within 2 minutes and immediately feed intelligence back to headquarters. We already know that the police are racist; they’re now being further enabled by racist AI Technologies. Police and facial recognition tech have no place on our streets, at our borders, and certainly not in our skies. Police and state surveillane will never be the answer, only we keep us safe. ❕Stay tuned @copwatchnetwork for further updates, and get involved in your local copwatch and antiraids groups❕ Infographic description: 7 images with a black and yellow theme and the copwatch network logo. There are various images on the slides including drones, facial recognition technology, Notting Hill Carnival, and a group of people/comrades holding a banner that says "protect your neighbours".

DAY 12: WE ARE STILL OCCUPYING RIDLEY ROAD SHOPPING VILLAGE On Tuesday 31st March security attempted to evict traders at Ridley Road Shopping Village but the community members stood strong and pushed back. A community occupation is keeping the space alive. Support on site helps maintain this presence, along with basic tasks like tidying and sharing updates. BUT THE MAIN DUTY IS TO JUST BE THERE ALONGSIDE TRADERS. Please DM us if you’d like to join the rota and sign up for a shift. We need 4-6 people per shift, with more people required for night shifts In theory there is NO LEGAL RISK to volunteers on site. Why? BECAUSE this is a civil matter, it’s not a criminal offence until the dispute is handled in court. As we know, police behavior can be unpredictable and often influenced by racial bias. Despite this being a civil matter, a trader was arrested yesterday, so it’s important that we understand our rights. 💥💥KNOW YOUR RIGHTS! 💥💥 If the police come back and you are a trader you can: ❌deny them entry to the building. ❌You can also ask them to leave if they gain entry to the building without you realising. If you are NOT a trader you can: ❌ ONLY deny them entry, 🙄you can NOT compel them to leave *If the police claim that you are here ‘illegally’* or you don’t have the right to deny them entry (eg you’re not a trader or your license agreement has expired) you can: 🔊 remind them that *we are in a civil dispute* with the landlord and there is no court order compelling us to leave and that we disagree. ❓*If the police say they have a lawful reason to enter,* always ask ‘on what grounds’ There are some reasons they can enter and search. For example: ⚠️ To enter and search any premises to: - Execute an arrest warrant, arrest or recapture a person on any premises - Reasonable grounds that the person is on the premises - breach of peace - Save life and limb or prevent serious damage to property - If they have grounds that a crime is being committed (eg, theft) 💞 GBC Bustcard: /wp-content/uploads/2021/04/1-London-Bustcard-March-2021-1.pdf 📞 Protest Support Line: 07946541511 SOLIDARITY FOREVER ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

💥TRADERS DEMANDS 1️⃣Calling for the return of the original secure and permanent leases for all traders. 2️⃣Rent affordability- there must be a rent cap (to be agreed by traders and landlord) to ensure that traders can continue with their business and not be financially pushed out based on the unaffordability of rent. 3️⃣There must be transparency and clear communication from the landlord with all traders on the terms of the new lease and the return date after the refurbishment is expected to be completed and terms of the new lease. 4️⃣Compensation for the loss of income/earnings during the refurbishment process (which is 2/3 months of forced closure) as this will affect trader’s livelihood and their family responsibilities. 5️⃣No more collective punishment, racist discrimination and over policing of traders. All traders are to be treated equally. 💥‼️Terms of conditions of the lease must be put in writings and concerns must be addressed before traders are forced to leave for the refurbishment process.

‼️ Urgent phone campaign: Ridley road traders and the local community are currently resisting the eviction of the Shopping Village. The traders have requested an urgent meeting with Rainbow properties agency (the landlord), but they are being ignored. Yesterday the electricity was turned off with people inside. We need people to urgently phone their office and demand they turn electricity on, respond to the email that was sent by the traders, and agree to a meeting to hear their demands. If you are able to, we also need your support at Ridley road shopping village to hold the space. Come and join us in person! 📞 Contact details: General phone line: 02076045969 Out of office (use this number over the bank holiday weekend): 02080578552 💪 Script link in bio

Ridley Road Shopping Village is currently under threat. Traders are facing possible eviction and being left without clear or secure lease terms, putting livelihoods at risk. Markets like Ridley Road, built and sustained by migrant and racialised communities, are often the first to be pushed out when areas change. This is not a coincidence but deeply racist. Over the next few days, traders and community members are coming together to resist. This kind of resistance depends on collective presence, we need people there. If you can, come down, bring others, and share this with your networks!! Let’s show up for Ridley Road.
