Come and see @theferal3024 @berggruendiedo in Venise 🖤🔥 The Feral (Epoch 1) a film by Fabien Giraud From The Feral, 2025-3025, a project initiated by Fabien Giraud, co-founded with Anne Stenne. The Feral is a film that unfolds over a thousand years, and takes place in a landscape in France. Equipped with sensors, cameras and microphones, the site is both the film’s location and the learning environment of a custom-built Al system. Each year, or ‘epoch’, an artist contributes interventions shaping its continual learning across 32 generations. Epoch 1, the first lesson to the machine, is inspired by real events, set in 11th-century. It follows Emme, living among heretics during the ‘fire plague’, or ergotism, caused by ergot-infected rye-later synthesised as LSD. Hidden from the world, they inoculate themselves with this psychoactive fungus, surrendering to the visions it produces. Sequences of Emme at different ages provide data from which his life may be reconstructed by the Al system. Taking its name from the zoological term for any domesticated animal freed from captivity, The Feral, through the shared parenting of an inhuman child, aims to produce a similar emancipation within ourselves and our world.

If you are in Paris on Thursday June 5th, join us at 18:00 at the Jeu de Paume for a presentation and discussion of the project "The Feral", led by the artist Fabien Giraud and the curator Anne Stenne: a project spanning 1000 years (2024-3024) and involving a natural landscape in the Plateau de Millevaches in the South of France, 32 generations of humans, and a constantly evolving AI system. Every year (corresponding to an "epoch" in the reciprocal "training" of AI, landscape and humans), an artist is in charge of somehow supervising the process and its visible manifestations. In 2026, Fabien Giraud and Pierre Huyghe will be in charge of the first "epoch" of this shifting, deep-time project. Congratulations Pierre Huyghe and beautiful Studio team for achieving some of the Best Artworks of the 21st Century, as selected by @artnews and @artinamerica . “Like many of the most memorable creations by the perennially probing and prescient Pierre Huyghe, After ALife Ahead became all the more identifiable as a work by Huyghe when it started to stray from the control of the artist himself. He created this work—a “time-based bio-technical system,” that took the form of a sort of excavation of a former ice rink that was transformed into an alternately earthy and technology-abetted biosphere. Altogether it was a kind of tribute to old and new life forces that are stranger than science-fiction.” @latelier.de.lars @ss_sarasimon @a_room_with_a_viewing @ivaylopg @la_louve_nyc

A Methusaleh-esque social experiment, @fabiengiraudraphaelsiboni ’s “The Feral” is an AI system designed to create a thousand-year-long film, broadcast live, with the participation of thirty-two generations of human performers. The work sets forth as its core proposition a reciprocal duet between human and artificial intelligence: “The more domesticated a machine system becomes, the more ‘feral’ we become.”   For the cover story of the latest issue of @ursulamagazine , Siboni and Giraud joined curator @annestenne —co-founder and artistic director of “The Feral”—for a conversation about art, artificial intelligence and the mounting existential uncertainty of the 21st century.   🔗 Read their full conversation at the link in bio or in print in Ursula Issue 10, out now.   1, 2. One of 2 experiences/exhibitions which remains in my mind from Venice: « liminal » by @huyghepierre Huyghe. It includes new and previous work which takes us to another place/plan where humans transform and evolve with non-humans. It is mysterious, complex and poetic. It shows an evolution from other exhibitions whether at Luma, Munster or Centre Pompidou. Less harsh, more sensual. « Pierre Huyghe has since long questioned the relation between the human and the non-human, and conceives his works as speculative fictions from which emerge other modalities of world. Fictions, to him, are “vehicles for accessing the possible or the impossible—what could be or could not be.” Pierre Huyghe transforms Punta della Dogana into a dynamic, sensitive milieu perpetually evolving. The exhibition is a transitory state inhabited by human and non-human creatures and becomes the site of formation of subjectivities that are constantly learning, changing, and hybridizing. Their memories are expanding with information captured from events, both perceptible and imperceptible, that permeate the exhibition. For Pierre Huyghe, the exhibition is an unpredictable ritual, where new possibilities are generated and coexist, without hierarchy or determinism. With Liminal, he invites us to follow other realities, to become strangers to ourselves, from a perspective other than human—inhuman. » @huyghepierre #collectionpinault curator @annestenne @punta_della_dogana #human #nonhuman
