@annacone invited me to curate a show at @shadow_walls for @upstateartweekend and it somehow turned into a dream show.
Shadow Walls is a space in transition, a future retreat and artist residency in the Catskills. Its main building is a jaw dropping Victorian house Anna has been restoring with intent and care.
Trying to design a show in a space in flux such as this one was an exercise in imagination different from any other I’ve experienced so far. I am SO humbled so many artists I respect and adore have chosen to participate in this experimental, site responsive context.
This is the blueprint for what may become my way of thinking shows: neither commercial nor institutional projects, in third spaces in which practices can respond to their environment differently.
I hope to see you at the opening or throughout the somewhat short run of the show (a couple of weeks at most)

REPAIR focuses on the act of mending or rebuilding not only as a physical fixing mechanism but also as an act of care, whether it be for oneself, an item, a person, a relationship, a people, or a land.
Presenting mostly sculptures, video, and installations, the exhibition reflects on considered, contextual interactions between subject and space.
Paying tribute to Shadow Walls’ current transitory state, +20 artists respond to specific locations within the property’s main Victorian house and throughout its broader grounds.

Join us at @shadow_walls Nov. 9th for an immersive experience in 🍄gourmet mushroom farming🍄 with @letstalkrot and @sisipaintscats ! In this hands-on workshop with TALKROT, participants will dive into the fascinating world of mushroom cultivation, learning how to grow gourmet varieties in hardwood logs and garden beds through working together to create a permanent gourmet mushroom farm at Shadow Walls. Under expert guidance, you’ll gain practical knowledge on selecting and preparing logs, inoculating mushroom spawn, and setting up productive garden beds that support healthy mushroom growth. Together, we’ll create a thriving and artistic mushroom farm at Shadow Walls, providing participants with a unique, educational, and memorable experience that celebrates the incredible world of fungi.
Within our mission to connect art, nourishment and healing, we are thrilled to host artist SiSi Chen. Chen, who will activate the mushroom farm with site-specific sculptural installations between now and the time that it fruits, will speak on her practice and plans.
