First image from Leap of Sympathy that opened last week at @richardsaltoungallery The two pieces titled Olimpia are inspired by the automaton character of Olimpia in The Sandman by E.T.A Hoffman. The love interest of the main character "glitches' while performing an aria in her introducructiom to society. The glitch symbolises for me the separation between intuition and reason Western society has experienced since the Enlightenment period. The two Olympia's represent a whole that was split in to two with one sculpture activated by a mechanism and one by a performer. I'm humbled and forever grateful to be collaborating on this performance with @warriorswalkalone on choreography and live activation of the automaton @laimaleyton on composition and playing live @jodydeschutter playing live @sole_montacci a performer who is an angel Also @adam.wadey.artist for bringing the automation to life @chloehsdg @meganlilythomas @karolinkadworska for tufting and sewing support @jamesalechardy for install and mental health support Image credit @kristofjeney

@anna_perach explores how identity is shaped by folklore, mythology, and storytelling through sculptural installation and performance. For 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘶𝘥𝘥𝘭𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘨𝘦 at @kunstfortvijfhuizen , she presents wearable sculptures created using mechanical tufting, a technique traditionally used in carpet-making. Her work draws on textile traditions to subvert ideas of femininity, domesticity, and craft. These hybrid, human-scale forms operate as a second skin — at once tactile and inviting, yet also uncanny, restrictive, and at times unsettling. Through this tension, Perach reflects on the pressures placed on the body and the transformation required to navigate them. The scuffle of the cuddle cage at @kunstfortvijfhuizen "The concrete Fort at Vijfhuizen was originally built as a military site of (male) protection and defense. The scuffle of the cuddle cage fills it with artistic perspectives on the state of women—full of colorful indignation and dark humor, pushing boundaries of pain while offering a glimmer of hope." Curated by Rabiaâ Benlahbib Thank you to @marcelle.joseph for loaning a work for the exhibition.
