Author: Anna Kamińska @ankatecture Title: The Institute of Revolutionary Health Description: “This project reimagines the Wormwood Scrubs Prison site as the Institute of Revolutionary Health: a vision of ‘Public Luxury’ where access to health and expressive architecture is a right, not a privilege. Developed around a structural logic of repetition, the proposal features a series of glulam screens forming the basis for three greenhouses and core towers, all connected to four masonry blocks. The design supports a wider programme focused on reuse and sustainability. The Radical Hedonism group (Anna Kamińska, Imene Aida Merzougui @iam__arch_ , Jay Patel @jayp.arch ) celebrates the idea that architecture can host collective rituals - festivals, meals, gatherings. The proposal explores how built space can nurture community. What was once a space of isolation is reimagined as a civic playground, full of flavour, rhythm, and joy.” Studio: DS15 Studio @ds15studio Professors: Sean Griffiths @sean_griffiths1 and Matteo Sarno @matteo.lnd School: University of Westminster @uniwestminster @openstudio_wm

Work by Anna Kaminska / Year 1 / @ankatecture ‚Public Luxury refers to things once seen as luxurious, now viewed as vital for a progressive society. The Institute of Revolutionary Health celebrates that making informed decisions about health is a right, not a privilege. The project presents a design logic of repetition: a series of glulam screens that are the structural basis for 3 large greenhouses and core towers. The above connect to 4 masonry blocks of the institute.’ Part of the ‘Radical Hedonism ‘ Group (Imene Aida Merzougui, Jay Patel, Anna Kaminska) Group Manifesto: ‚In a society freed from the tyranny of work, our architecture becomes ritual: a constellation of ever-shifting venues where festivals are not escape, but an integral part of a new kind of revolutionary and hedonistic resistance. Experimental rhythms and radical joy swell through structures (un)built to make, break, and share. These venues are temples to play, defiance, and collective feasts.’ #architecture #architecturestudent #ribastudent #archidaily #architectureportfolio

-MArch Year 1 - DS15’s brief reimagines HMP Wormwood Scrubs prison as an ‘Institute of Public Luxury’. Public Luxury refers to things once seen as luxurious, now viewed as vital for a progressive society. The brief imagines a future where capitalism is replaced by eco-socialism: a system that values the environment and well-being over profit. Students in the studio formed groups to create their own fictional societies. Our group is based on the idea of Radical Hedonism, focusing on the power of festivals in a post-capitalist world. The proposed institute is divided in four distinct sections: - The Observatory of Words and Ideas - The Centre of Making and Breaking - The Institute of Revolutionary Health -The Travel Co-Operative. Within my group, my proposal focuses on the Institute of Revolutionary Health. The proposal entails a series of glulam screens that are the structural basis for 3 large greenhouses and core towers. The above connect to 4 masonry blocks of the institute. The existing prison cells have been repurposed.
