“Reservoir: One Hour, One Hundred Years” on view at my solo show SPECTRAL FIELD in Houston @diverseworks
The sound piece includes recordings of accordion playing from within the Buffalo Bayou Cistern, Houston’s decommissioned reservoir. The noise is played and distorted through the centrifuge of a vintage Leslie rotary speaker from an old organ.
Only two more weekends to catch this show! It’s up Monday through Saturday from 2—8pm in Houston at the Diverseworks gallery space within the MATCH Center in midtown
Very, very grateful for everyone who came to the opening of “spectral field” @diverseworks during @untitledartfairs Houston last weekend—more images coming soon! See the show before it closes on November 8th. Lovely photos by @santotemplo ~
“Sun Poem” installation at the Seaholm Water Intake Facility is complete!! So grateful for the @thetrailconservancy for this dream opportunity for long term light installation. This historic building is an essential part of Austin history and I’m humbled to be able to invite new meditations on its beauty and significance.
This piece is illuminated and visible 24/7 for an entire year! I’m hoping there will be an opportunity for yall to enter the building soon, but for now, be sure to observe it at different times of day from outside the facility at 801 w Cesar Chavez or from across town lake at auditorium shores in the evening.
Stay tuned for more images, video documentation thanks to @coolstorybita and @pillarboxed (teaser on slide 7 with wonderful Hadi doing some Persian dancing for their upcoming film project for @aaafilmfest ), and programming updates!
Beyond honored to have my work written about by the brilliant Moyang Li for Association for the Study of the Arts of the Present @asap_journal . Moya saw me with such clarity from my solo exhibition “Spectral Field” @diverseworks and found connections to some of my very first pieces. I’m humbled! Read via the link in bio.
Posting! This time to say I’m so proud of @davidgriscom for publishing his first seminal book with @or_books : The Myth of Red Texas: Cowboys, Populism, and Class War in the Radical South. It officially comes out this week (order it at orbooks.com, not Amazon) but there has already been so much meaningful solidarity and friendship building as a result of it being out in the world, especially after the recent events in Houston, Dallas, Brownsville, and San Antonio. Each gathering has drawn Texans across all generations and walks of life looking for hope and clarity in this age of extreme conservatism. The histories David uncovers in his book show us a proud and powerful legacy of people fighting for the dignity of their neighbors - a legacy that we must draw from in Texas and as a country as we look towards the future.
Don’t miss his talk @alienatedmajestybooks in Austin on May 7 ❤️🔥 and hopefully others!
Here we are just under two years ago, right after he started writing the book and just after I installed Sun Poem at the Seaholm Water Intake Facility. :,)
I’m thrilled to announce that I have been selected as one of several artists to realize a public artwork project over the next five years at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport @ausairport as part of the Airport Expansion & Development Program (AEDP)! ✈️
It’s a massive honor to work with the AUS airport team and Austin Art in Public Places (AIPP) @cityofaustinarts , and a key facet of this work is active community engagement during this early ideation stage.
Stay tuned for opportunities to participate in this public process in Austin and online—I’d love to have your voices help shape this work, and I’ll be asking you to share your stories about water, atmosphere, and Austin!
