Cover Reveal! Let’s Find Yaya & Boo On The Go!
Making this book was a real trip. When I was a kid I couldn’t put down Richard Scarry’s Cars and Trucks and Things That Go, and to think that 50 years after its release I’d be making a little homage to it. Thank you to the many people who lent me their time and trucks and cars and planes and boats and bikes and things that go. And of course to the dogs who had more fun than anyone.

Edit: wow this blew up. Thank you so much for all the kind words and the love for Momo. You can find his books anywhere books are sold, just search Find Momo. Our kids book about grief is called Find Momo Everywhere which I wrote and illustrated. The music is Careless Landscape by Martin Klem.
Ok maybe it was mostly a ball or a stick.
Yesterday I asked for some feedback for running with dogs when it comes to joint care. I got some really helpful advice (I really do love this community).
Overall advice:
- The rules for humans (mostly) apply to dogs.
- Ball/stick throwing can actually be worse than running (for joints).
Before you run:
- Different bodies/breeds can handle different levels of exercise, so:
- Know your specific dog AND breed (and of course, age)!
- Plan shorter distances at first.
- If unsure, check with a pet physio.
- Consider temperature/weather.
- Get the correct gear (They have collars on here because they mostly don’t pull when running, but I really should have a harness on them to be safe.) I really like @nonstopdogwear harnesses and running leashes.
While running:
- Softer surfaces (trails/unpaved) are better.
- Choose off leash when you can. If running on leash they must match your pace (not great).
- On leash running forces their gait to something that could be unnatural.
- Always look for signs of exhaustion.
- Of course hydration is huge.
Boo is definitely less of a runner than Yaya. Sometimes he slows down so I’ll slow down with him. Yaya can outpace me 24/7. Momo got most of his exercise from chasing balls which supports the idea that this is worse for their joints as he ended up with arthritis. He also loved swimming, which is the best, but that was seasonal/locational.
Nanda said it best: “When I take June for a run/mountainbike, I change my mindset, its for her and not for me. So leave her home when i want to get specific effort in!”
