👁️ Ecdysis - “the process of shedding the old skin” - I tried to write about my lack of presence on this space over the last while, and ended up writing about politics, walls - my profile picture, my name, my life

Scenes from the prairies - watching moods come to life from the @viarailcanada observation car was my favourite past time on the train. Being able to pass through the changes at a slower pace is a particular kind of feeling you can’t get anywhere else. #ViaRail40
behind the glass / outside the glass / outside the bar / inside the bar / wondering by the waterfront / flowers / steamy kiss / train station / smoking together / waterfront wind / I’m not ignoring you / this hurts to watch / i love you, still
thinking about nyc today, and the ongoing democratic primary election, likely to choose the outcome for mayor of the wealthiest city in the world, so long as the momentum can continue for the fall. New York’s status is unique, a city deep in historical, cultural, social and economically significant stories. Innumerable people, arts, architecture, contemporary and colonial histories tie to this place. The outcome of today’s primary has the potential to set a stage for a new generation of leadership, to tell a story of change. Of opportunity and redirection, or, it could yet again rebuke a momentum of reshaping and instead cause a reinforcement that has the appearance of shattering.
Waiting to see has me nostalgic so here are some snaps from my last visit in november that coincided with halloween, the marathon and the ‘last’ election.

Arriving by @viarailcanada to Jasper will forever be a highlight of my personal and professional life. I will never forgive politicians and executives who have willfully walked us into ecological collapse.
Successive, compounding wildfires destroying hectares of our landscapes year after year in Canada are yet another thing that drive home to me the need for conversations to continually be framed around politics - from artists, journalists, to businesses and people who consider themselves apolitical until it’s them and their home.
My heart breaks thinking about the land, especially the animals - I grieve for the people, and I will forever stand in solidarity with all who oppose climate breakdown.

More rain fell in three hours on Tuesday morning than Toronto normally receives in the entire month of July. It caused widespread, sustained power outages, flooding - the rest of the day was a scorcher. Rainfall is the primary way Toronto is likely to experience climate change, with these types of storms occurring more frequently, with more intensity - and the cities infrastructure isn’t designed for it. Despite this it was also oddly beautiful. A shared unavoidable interruption that hopefully serves to remind us of our connectivity.
Someone I know saw me with a camera on Tuesday, and asked if I was going to post any of the photos and I said “probably not” - I was posting videos - so they asked why I was taking them and I said “I don’t know”. It’s a way that I interpret my surroundings, a way to document my perspective over time, how you are, how you see, is what you get, and I often see myself glimpsing differently. Anyway, I guess I misjudged and instead of rotting away on a hard drive like so many snaps - here’s a couple from one of the wettest days in Toronto history.
My #VariationVantage was lively during the downtown blackout // pigeons, tunnels, people // small whirl pools // couple watchers // during and after // high water, empty roads and confounded people // views /// last looks / a sunset composition (this river I step in is not the river I stand in)
some snaps of @nicedayjenn in the new space she’s blossoming into as she grows @nicedaypilates / and some water lilies because that just made sense to me today 😌
