Surf’s up. 🌊
A custom art piece for a custom home.
I don’t often stray from painting on canvas, but in this case an old surfboard was the right choice. Grey scale waves on black background to match the modern aesthetic of the home, a perfect fit.
“Equinox” - 30” x 48” (Acrylic on Canvas)
A rare moment when the moon rises as the sun sets. This brief celestial balance was captured while looking east over the North Shore Mountains during the fall equinox.
“DIFFRACTION” 24 x 48 (ACRYLIC ON CANVAS)
“Diffraction is the interference or bending of waves around the corners of an obstacle.” Using the iconic Anvil Island as my subject. This was a study of the play between movement and light / shadow. Limiting my pallet and working in a monochromatic colour scheme was a healthy change from the usual.
Capturing the essence of the Sechelt Inlet has been a multi-year endeavour. Its Beauty and expanse is something that changes hour to hour and season to season. Choosing the late afternoon light was an easy decision as it offers the most diversity in form and shadow. -

The owner of this painting recently reached out to share the affect it was having on her house guests. She explained the state of deep contemplation it brought to them.
They would express how it made them feel and through this, She found herself learning new things about people she had known for years. It’s always fascinating to see how a painting will hold different meaning to different people.
