I can’t overstate what an immense honor it is to officially draw the big guy! There have been a few pirate Supermen in DC’s history, and for our version, I deliberately restrained myself to keep him as close to iconic as possible. Sometimes less is more, and there’s a poetry to this character that we don’t want to obscure.

An unpublished design sheet I made for my time-spanning style-shifting final arc on “Aquaman: Yo-Ho-Hold Onto Your Hook!” written by Josh Trujillo.
We wanted to show classic Aquafam icons Mera and Garth evolve through the years, so I shifted my style to pay homage to legendary Aquaman artists like Ramona Fradon and Butch Guice.
Never got around to doing the homage to @philjimeneznyc ’s phenomenal 1996 Tempest series but I put a lot of thought into it! Phil probably doesn’t remember, but when I first moved to NYC I attended a Society of Illustrators @soi128 event where he gave me some wonderful art advice, and he’s been a North Star to me ever since.
