I’m in a post launch fugue state, filled with gratitude and, yes, hope thanks to the friends, family and comrades who packed @typebooks yesterday to celebrate THE STORY AND SCIENCE OF HOPE. Look at that window, those faces, delicious cookies and some of the notes of hope that hung on the hope tree! 😍 Thanks to @typebooks and @jo.saul for hosting and toasting, mopping and cheering, to @groundwoodbooks for being the publisher of my dreams, @anasuarezillustrator for your lovely words and gorgeous illustrations, @liz.lundy for your perfect intro and @njsaul for everything. Onward!☀️

It’s been 23 years since my first book INTO THE BLUE was published. It’s a memoir-ish story about a shipwreck and its reverberations in my family and community. Since it came out I’ve published 11 more books, written a lot of other stuff, raised two children, and the shipwreck I wrote about has been found on the bottom of Georgian Bay (check out my website for the incredible footage). There has also been an action movie with Jessica Alba called INTO THE BLUE and a novel by Robert Goddard with the same name. Now, a new book by New York Times bestseller @emma.c.brodie called INTO THE BLUE has just been released and is a @reesesbookclub pick. Bravo to Emma. Bravo to INTO THE BLUE in all its forms 💙 You can still find my ItB at some bookstores (@typebooks 💙) and online.

One of the most important things I learned about HOPE when I was researching and writing THE STORY AND SCIENCE OF HOPE, published by @groundwoodbooks , illustrated by @anasuarezillustrator , is that hope can —and must— be nurtured and taught. Check out the fantastic resources available at @groundwoodbooks new portal EDUCATION CENTRAL, where educators and anyone else can access activities and ideas for incorporating HOPE —the book and the concept — into classroom literacy, writing, comprehension and so much more. Last year I wrote a blog post on how to cut waste and embrace circularity during the excesses of the holiday season. I think it bears reposting. Check it out at the 🔗 in my bio or below. Also: you know what makes the very best gifts? BOOKS! If you want a signed bookplate for any of my books, buy a copy and shoot me a DM with proof of purchase and I’ll pop it in the post.💌 /blogs/anansi/waste-reducing-holiday-hacks-with-andrea-curtis?srsltid=AfmBOopbZWdkuRHAaOSYtmleU6YUeZKF_0xs3EFKNVkEWVHkXUr3qNjt

HOPE takes work, especially in difficult times like we’re all living through right now. But it’s possible to build and nurture hopefulness for ourselves and others. I discovered so much amazing research when I was working on THE STORY AND SCIENCE OF HOPE. Here are a few of the highlights. You can find the book, illustrated by @anasuarezillustrator and published by @groundwoodbooks wherever good books are sold.

THE STORY AND SCIENCE OF HOPE has hit a nerve in this strange, difficult moment we are living through. I’m so grateful to all the people who’ve come out to see the book in the world, to read and listen, watch and share their hope for a better world (and the action they’re taking to reach it). HOPE grows in community. Thank you!🌞 🔗 in bio to the articles, essays, podcast Look for it at your local bookstore or online.

The science of hope is remarkable. And while Hope Theorists have been at it for decades, we’re likely to see more significant gains in the future. Will we be able to stimulate hope in the brain? Pinpoint it in the blood? Over the next couple weeks, I’m sharing some of the research I discovered when working on my new book THE STORY AND SCIENCE OF HOPE illustrated by @anasuarezillustrator and published by @groundwoodbooks . For more, look for the book—aimed at kids 9-12 but helpful for anyone!—at a bookstore near you. “A balm for anxious youth and a necessary reminder for adults…”—School Library Journal

Gill Deacon @gilldeacon is a legend in Canadian broadcasting (and someone I’ve admired for decades) so when she asked me to appear on her new podcast LOVE AFFAIR WITH THE UNKNOWN I jumped at the opportunity (after freaking out a little😬). Our conversation about THE STORY AND SCIENCE OF HOPE is now available wherever you get your podcasts. Here’s a little preview. @aloveaffairwiththeunknown Thanks for having me @gilldeacon —you make it all look easy. Look forward to hearing you again soon❤️
