To cross water is to enter a threshold: between memory and forgetting, grief and renewal, exile and return. The sea becomes both witness and vessel, carrying stories of migration, displacement, and the desire for transformation. In dialogue with
@bryansenti ‘s composition, the film drifts through oceanic images filmed since 2019, where landscape dissolves into vision and the horizon becomes a site of uncertainty and possibility. La Marea does not represent the journey so much as inhabit its pulse, the fear of the unknown, the nostalgia of what is left behind, the illusions and hallucinations of an endless crossing. In this suspension, the film gestures toward the soul’s passage across states of being, where loss and hope co-exist in perpetual motion.

I had the honor of creating a film for Bryan Senti’s La Marea, the title track of his forthcoming album La Marea, out on October 10th
Bryan’s music tells the story of his father’s exile from Cuba, a journey across the sea, between memory and rebirth. Which resonates with my own father's family history of migration, leaving Turkey through the sea in 1965, and earlier generations before them escaping persecution.
