Repost from @theleverking • I have several disagreements with HOW influencers approach training, as well as the WHY behind their methods. Before I could truly get a grasp on how to fix problems with people, I needed a conceptual framework that would orient me to a path that would yield consistent outcomes. The @functionalpatterns First Four were what enabled me to know where to go with training. My conclusions up until now are that if humans can master STANDING, WALKING, RUNNING, AND THROWING, every motion after that you choose to learn becomes substantially easier to master. The reason for that comes back to the fact that these four functions define us biomechanically. In modern times, we have distorted ourselves away from our biological roots, consequently leading us to where we are now: anxious, weak, neurotic, in pain, dehydrated, sick, injured, depressed, etc. My hypothesis is that most conditions humans deal with are the byproduct of not getting back to these roots. In application, if the exercises you do happen to not build on the sequential motions that created the human organism, they will act to counter to the roots of what make us who we were at our best. That said, this still only accounts for the why. The how after understanding the why is completely different. I’ve been copied on the why for over a decade, and no one finds the formula. Why? That’s a story for another time. #functionalpatterns

Repost from @theleverking @functionalpatterns • Why do people avoid doing the deepest kind of work that reorients the fascia in the body? Tom breaks it down here. What a blessing this man is and it’s incredible more people don’t pay attention to him. Dude is a modern-day Carl Sagan. Except instead of exploring outer space, he dives into what’s happening inside the human body and how those internal dysfunctions shape the environment we create around us, either toward sanity or the opposite. Pay attention. #functionalpatterns #anatomytrains #projectfunction

WHY YOGA MAKES YOUR JOINTS VULNERABLE. • Repost from @theleverking 🔴 Destabilizes Joints and Makes Connective Tissues Loose Stretching evolved through a mechanism called reciprocal inhibition, when one muscle contracts, its opposite automatically lengthens. Passive stretching bypasses this process entirely. This overly lengthens the muscles & ligaments that support your joints, and the instability it creates is what leads to pain and injury over time. 🔴 It Ruins the Optimal Range of Motion in Your Joints There is such a thing as creating too much range of motion in your joints. People think that increasing flexibility & mobility automatically means you move better. But that’s not the case at all. If the exercise you do doesn’t improve the functions found in the FP First 4, of Standing, Walking, Running & Throwing, it keeps you stuck moving the same ways you always have. 🔴 Group Classes Reinforce Your Existing Imbalances Everyone has a preferred way of moving, which is oriented around your existing imbalances & dysfunctions. Group classes aren’t set up in a way that leads to correcting these problems. Instead, you end up reinforcing your existing imbalances, making them more difficult to undo later down the track. If the training you do doesn’t actively correct your dysfunctions, you end up functioning the same way you always did. #functionalpatterns #fpisthestandard

Been running a dynamic class recently. A lot of people train hard but don’t actually learn how to move well. This is where we slow things down, build coordination, and improve how the body handles load. Will open more spots soon — message me if interested. #functionalpatterns #fpsyd #dynamics #coordination #painfree

There’s a reason these courses sell out. Looking forward to getting back to @fp_sydney • Repost @functionalpatterns Another @fp.certified Human Biomechanics Specialist Level 1 course is complete. As more individuals step away from surface-level solutions and toward biomechanics-driven training, the standard continues to rise. What’s learned here isn’t meant to stay in the gym or the classroom. It’s meant to be applied, refined, and pressure-tested in the real world. With real people facing real physical problems and movement limitations. To everyone who attended, this revolution in training continues. Now it’s time to show people what it means to train intentionally and not habitually through your work, your standards, and your results. If you’re looking to get started with this system, the first step begins with the @10weekonlineprogram . #functionalpatterns #fpcertified #projectfunction #functionaltraining

Just over three months ago I saw @shane.delange from @fp_surfcoast do this movement and gave it a try, I couldn’t move the bar. Yesterday, while back home in Armidale, I decided to revisit it. Consistent training @fp_sydney including time on the @vectortrainer and @rg_bar_ , with the crew. Plenty to work on — enjoying the process. #functionalpatterns #fpisthestandard

Repost from @functionalpatterns • Coffee and other caffeine-based substances seem to rule the world right now. Unfortunately, this won’t end well for our adrenal glands and stress response. You know that feeling when your card gets declined at checkout? That awkward moment when you’re writing checks your account can’t cash? That’s exactly what caffeine does to your body. Every time you slam that coffee, you’re forcing your adrenals and HPA axis to work overtime, borrowing energy you don’t actually have. It’s like trying to fuel your car with fumes and wondering why you keep breaking down. You’re not getting stronger. You’re getting deeper into biological debt. Most people think the answer is to just “quit cold turkey.” Good luck with that when your entire system is running on borrowed time. Here’s what actually works: Train your body to create REAL energy through proper movement patterns. When you start training with Functional Patterns, you’re not just exercising, you’re teaching your body how to generate sustainable energy through structural balance. Better posture = better breathing = better oxygen delivery = ACTUAL energy instead of fake stimulant highs. The goal isn’t to hate coffee forever. The goal is to not NEED it just to function like a normal human being. Stop borrowing from tomorrow’s energy account. Start building real energy reserves today. Your adrenals will thank you. #functionalpatterns #caffeine #coffee #functionaltraining #mitochondria #hormonebalance #movementismedicine

Have you noticed ? When you start improving biomechanics, you quickly realise how many layers there are to refine. And the better you get at the basics, the better your body feels. That’s why I film and watch back — the camera never lies.📸 Comment if you’ve noticed value in going back to the basics 🔥 @10weekonlineprogram @regentrainer @fp_sydney #functionalpatterns #fpisthestandard #fascia

Back in March I attended the Human Foundations course @fp_melbourne under the guidance of @fiachra_eviston and @lou.ellery Pumped to be part of the functional Patterns eco system. Work to do! • • • Another successful Human Foundations course completed. Great to see so many people coming together, all looking for real change in their bodies and how they move. FP continues to attract people from all backgrounds—physiotherapists, office workers, tradespeople—all searching for better biomechanical efficiency. You could see people feeling the effects and rethinking their approach to training. Let’s keep the momentum going! #functionalpatterns #humanfoundations #fpallday #gym
