BioDream by @ampleprojects@vividsydney
Loss is both an ending and a beginning—a moment for reflection, renewal and transformation.
Welcome to BioDream, a psychedelic dreamscape that explores the fleeting nature of existence and the space between our subconscious and waking life. Inspired by the disorienting experience of grief, the natural world and the symbolic power of water, this perspective-shifting projection is an ode to the cycle of life.
Projected onto the iconic Commercial Travellers’ Association (CTA) Building in Martin Place, BioDream unfolds in fluid, sometimes surreal, sequences. Albatrosses, birds known to mate for life, circle but never land. Water drips and defies gravity. Ripples undulate, crash and reform. Mangroves thrive against the odds.
BioDream reminds us that while loss is inevitable, so too is growth and rebirth.
Sydney is alive with colour & light at the moment, with many Iconic buildings illuminated nightly with amazing light shows. One of our favourites so far was ‘BioDream’ , a psychedelic dreamscape by @ampleprojects Ample Projects - a Sydney based collective of artists, designers & technologists.
It’s projected onto the iconic Commercial Traveller’s Association (CTA) Building in Martin Place, and unfolds in fluid, sometimes surreal, sequences.
I’ve just read more about the meaning behind it - very poignant, very resonant. .

Burwood Park lit up for the debut of "Wilay Mulaa: Spirit of Light".
This display showcases a stunning blend of traditional Chinese lanterns, reimagined as modern art by Nathan Peckham and Nicholas Tory, that captures the essence of the possum Wilay and underscores our deep connection to nature.
The opening included a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony by Wangal Elder Auntie Kerrie Kenton, along with performances by the Stiff Gins, Nicholas Ng, members of the Sydney Conservatorium Chinese Music Ensemble, and the Burwood Chinese Fan Dance Group.
The installation will be on display in Burwood Park until the end of June 2024. This captivating experience is not to be missed.
We invite you to be part of the official launch of Wilay Mulaa where you will experience a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony by Wangal Elder, Aunty Kerrie Kenton, hear from artists Nathan Peckham and Nicholas Tory, and be part of intimate performances by the Stiff Gins, Nicholas Ng and Members of the Sydney Conservatorium Chinese Music Ensemble and the Burwood Chinese Fan Dance Group.
Join us as we come together to connect with the Wilay’s spirit in the form of light.
Journey to the centre of Burwood Park from March to June 2024 to discover the Wilay Mulaa – a collection of handcrafted traditional Chinese lanterns, reimagined as contemporary art. Conceived by Nathan Peckam and Nicholas Tory, the 10 possum spirits keep watch over the forest that was here before us, and will continue to be here after we are gone.

Wednesday Winner Feature: Nicholas Tory, our 2022 multi-award winner for the captivating piece “Lifeblood”, is working on two exciting film projects. One is a live-action and animation documentary, a collaboration with Director Professor Rachel Landers and Producer Dylan Bowen. The other is a project for an Aboriginal cultural center in Bourke NSW, where “Lifeblood” was based. Nicholas is collaborating with architect Eileen Sage to design the building while crafting stories with the tribal council in the form of an animated film, permanent displays, AV installations, and gardens with artworks showcasing the work of Aboriginal artists.
As we eagerly await the fruition of those projects, let’s take a peek at some of Nicholas’s past works - a digital projection and light show on the Sydney Harbour Bridge for its 90th anniversary and “Wild Lights” at Taronga Zoo in Sydney as part of Vivid Sydney 2023.
Nicholas studied film and video art in the late 90s, worked in the Sydney film industry in the 200s, then switch to art and cultural events. Diversification is key for Nicholas. He focuses on a curated number of films that have high artistic and cultural quality, even if it takes time to complete. He’s always seeking to push boundaries, bringing his unique artistic touch to the world. Follow his work on @ampleprojects .

This was probably my favourite lantern in the whole of Taronga Zoo Wild Lights (part of #VividSydney2023).
We managed to get very last-minute tickets to the Night of Inclusion tonight. I almost didn't go, but I am so glad I did. My two youngest children came with me and loved it.
VIVID - We recently collaborated with Ample Projects and Yurana Creative for Taronga Zoo’s 'Wild Lights 2023' as part of @vividsydney . We were involved in the design of internal and base structures for manufacture and transport for this new collection of beautiful animal sculptures.
