This painting was made in Damariscotta, Maine. Summer left. The cold showed up — real, raw. Frost so thick it cracked under your feet crossing the field.
My agricultural tent studio is a different world from Los Angeles. I reveled in that. But I had to wear -three pairs of pants, three shirts, two sweaters, a beanie, cutoff gloves. And by the end of November, even that wasn’t enough. It was just too cold.
This piece marks that hard turn. Summer gone, fall folding into winter. Being a California native, that transition was wild and exciting and genuinely daunting all at once.
I started imagining the frost, the snowflakes, the cold — not as weather, but as something thrown. By angels, up in the clouds, releasing it all down to earth.
And when I think of an angel, I think of my daughter. So of course I put myself up there with her — the two of us, throwing snowflakes down from the sky. This painting is my love of seasons. And my love of my daughter-Again and always-

For sculpture I draw the piece 300 or more times & I enjoy every minute of it
while I’m looking at one area - I discover- a new angle that makes it stronger cleaner
I start again and again and again
Then I send the drawing to my vector file man named Richard
I re draw that vectored image again and again - all of it pleasing in a way so different from painting
It feels like a constant curious joy like maybe a purr like a cat in sunshine
All along I’m saying - oh my - no no - or hmmm yes ok —
Then I get to send it to @charisma_design_studio
Lilian and Ron the best couple since salt & pepper they chat with me about bases
Then Ron sends it to me tiny and I cut it out - and tape to my table
One day I will check out tablets but for now I like the cavewoman way
This sculpture is an homage to Vermeer’s “Girl with a Pearl Earring”
Mine will be 8feet tall and made of Corten Steel - It will be on view for my show March 21st - 3-5pm for my reception at @thejoanneartmangallery
