“Jack’s Red Pajamas” started as a @pafacademy litho class project. The prompt was to add a second print medium to the work and I selected woodblock. Sadly, I no longer have a print from the edition and cannot locate any photographs.
I created a quilt inspired by the original print using fabric printed as an apprentice @fabricworkshop .
The quilt was accepted into a Philadelphia Art In City Hall exhibition along with a hand knotted hook rug inspired by the crime scene photograph of Abigail Folger (covered by a white silhouette) in the published in the book “Helter Skelter” by Vincent Bugliosi.
During the run of the show, I received a call letting me know that my work offended a City Council Member who demanded removal. I assumed the rug was the reason. Spoiler alert, it wasn’t. 📰 Philadelphia Daily News Article featured in last slide.
The first line of the artist statement (about the rug) spoke about how desensitized we are to murder in the United States, I depicted the photograph as rug for a reason (this became a larger project called “ReLiving Room.”)
Unfortunately, I wrote a lazy sentence long sentence about the quilt, simply stating the work depicts a dog in an urban environment.
