AMERICAN SYMPHONY is out now on @netflix ✨✨huge congrats to @jonbatiste @suleikajaouad @mheineman @iamkingjules on such a moving and heartfelt portrait of love and the enduring strength of human spirit in the most trying of times. The film is absolutely immaculate, so I couldn’t help sharing a few moments from the process🦉🦉 . I’ve been fortunate enough to be involved in the conceptualization and writing process for this piece since 2018, and have witnessed the evolution of Jon’s vision through a changing world and his own artistic journey (and my own for that matter). This documentary is such a genuine testament to how inextricably linked the creative process is to the peaks and valleys of the lives we lead and the personal battles we all work through every day. I can’t even begin to explain the layers of allegories that the piece itself represents - the depth of connections it draws both musically and as an analogy for the current state of America and society at large are practically it’s own documentary. And yet Matt conveys these connections in such a subtle and poetic way, painting an intimate portrait into the breadth of humanity and strength of will that Jon and Suleika embody at the deepest of levels in a way that anyone can feel and understand. . I’m so honored to be a part of this endeavor, and grateful to the entire team that brought this story to the audience it deserves @iamkingjules @thordpnyc @thereelsd @_glennalexanderii and so many others. Feeling so blessed to be a small patch in this vast and beautiful quilt of existence that Jon and Suleika have woven, and even more happy that the world can finally see it.
