When we finished making 16 Bars in 2018, the film may have ended but I knew the story couldn’t possibly be finished. I used the word ‘obsessed’ to describe my attachment to that world, and I started following everyone involved around with a mic. Six years later we made it to NPR. Luckily I fell in with an incredibly committed group of artists in the teams at
@narratively and
@myvpm (Virginia’s NPR affiliate) who came together to shine a new light on these artists behind bars. The first two episodes of Track Change are out now on all podcast platforms, highlighting Teddy and Garland’s journeys. There are five episodes in all, so dive in and look out for the rest every Wednesday wherever you get your podcasts…always wanted to say that. ♥️
Just want to give some flowers to a few people I’m grateful for in this process. The director of 16 Bars, my mentor and big brother
@bathrock for believing in the show before it was a show and encouraging me to pursue it — including using my mic to record a message from “God” assuring me I was on the right track. The
@resonantpictures team who made my favorite movie of all time
@16barsthefilm from which this season is adapted (incl. but not limited to
@a.s.barton @alexcullen_dp @ashurmanphotography @chloeelizabethsabin and
@ericbeing ). To
@sarahscarbrough the engine behind the REAL Life Program and org and an absolute Richmond superhero. To
@noahsrosenberg who turned an idea into a real thing and connected all the people who would ultimately turn that real thing into a show. To
@eliz.mak and
@spectatorspork who masterfully produced and edited these episodes and their many previous iterations. And finally to
@speech__ the legend himself who stepped into the Richmond City Jail in the summer of 2017 and has been spiritually connected to that place ever since.
